Caitlyn Jenner Experienced ‘Sex Change Regret,’ Might De-Transition, Biographer Says

http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/the-wrap/article/Caitlyn-Jenner-Experienced-Sex-Change-7462964.php

Caitlyn Jenner, who announced her transition from man to woman last year, has considered de-transitioning, the author of a new book about the Kardashian family told TheWrap on Wednesday....

“One source confirmed to me Caitlyn has made whispers of ‘sex change regret,’ hinting she might go back to being Bruce Jenner,” Halperin said.

Halperin said that one long-time friend told him that, while Jenner was “thrilled” to champion transgender issues, the reality TV personality could de-transition “in the next couple years.”

“It hasn’t been easy for Caitlyn, it’s been very hard,” the friend said, according to Halperin. “She’s thrilled she has raised awareness about how transgender people have long been discriminated against but I think there’s a chance she’ll de-transition in the next couple years. I don’t think it would surprise anybody in her inner circle. It has been much harder than she anticipated. My heart goes out to her and I know her true friends will be there to support her on whatever path she chooses.”

While I think this is just a National Enquirer type article, there's nothing funny about detransitioning.

I know a few transwomen who have returned to living as men because they had such a challenging time being accepted as women that they found living consistent with their biological sex preferable to living their gender identity. This is typically because they did not transition until adult-hood after many of the secondary sex characteristics were so strongly present that they were unable to conform to society's norms for women - and could not afford or chose not to have all of the feminization surgery that Jenner's wealth allowed her to have. Ultimately, for my friends, it was harassment, in large and small ways, that drove the choice - not surgical regrets.

Feeling forced to give in to that kind of pressure to deny who you are is a tragedy - not a cheap joke.

In the wide-ranging interview with Lauer, Jenner discussed the controversy over her selection as winner of the ESPYs’ Arthur Ashe Courage Award, and revealed she has no regrets about no longer living as a man. “There’s nothing more, nothing better in life to wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror, and feel comfortable with yourself and who you are,” she said.

Just because someone defies gender norms, does not make them transgender.

The children, who actually met the Criteria for gender dysphoria, almost always grew up to be transgender.

SRS is one of the cosmetic surgeries with the LOWEST degree of regret.

It is about 2% where the average plastic surgery has a regret rate of 65%. Further, the rate of regret for SRS is comparable to those people who have had Lap-Band surgery. Now how often have you heard regret stories for gastric bypass surgery?

No doctor will perform an SRS on a whim. So much time is spent exploring other options that those who eventually do get SRS are those who really need it.

People tend to view SRS as if it were some kind of elective cosmetic surgery, like a face life or rhinoplasty. Obviously, it isn't.

It requires countless hours of therapy, and living as ones "target sex" FULL TIME for over a years. Not to mention painful laser hair removal on both your face and genitals.

The medical establishment doesn't want to just let anyone off the street undergo costly and permanent surgery that will leave them completely sterile for the rest of their lives.

This is a serious and life altering decision, no legit doctor is just going to put a rubber stamp on it and risk losing their license.

Thanks for the supportive reply and sorry for the mini-rant, but this (trans and LGBTQ rights...not Caitlyn Jenner) is one of my pet issues

26. Transtrenders

May 2016

There seems to be a certain subset of people (teens mainly) who seem to believe that being trans is a fashion statement, and attack anyone who thinks you need a medical diagnosis for dysphoria to be "abelist" and "truscum." They love to say, "You don't need dysphoria to be trans!" Having struggled with (properly diagnosed) dysphoria, I find this attitude insulting, and IMO, they make actual trans people look bad.

But when you use the term "trans" I am not quite sure where you are coming from. Do you mean Transsexual, or transgender? Or do you see the two words as synonyms?

I ask because my answer will vary depending on how you define those two words.

With regards to Transsexual, I feel that anyone who is willing to go/or has already gone through all the medical and psychological procedures to change their gender, they are transsexual. I can't imagine someone willing to do that, and to face the discrimination that comes with that unless they were dysphoric.]

DSMV definition of Gender Dysphoria for the curious:

http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac144/lostlink247365/DSM_zpsaqdfwmyd.png

Transgender, on the other hand, I define as an umbrella term to describe any person who identifies as a gender different from their assigned one. This includes transsexuals, agender, bigender, two spirit, genderfluid, female identifying crossdressers, crossdreamers/AGPs, genderqueer, and many others. I do feel this particular designation does NOT requires dysphoria.

I base my opinions on articles like these:

http://geneq.berkeley.edu/lgbt_resources_definiton_of_terms#transgender

http://www.hrc.org/resources/glossary-of-terms?_ga=1.235352133.535041075.1463036586

http://thefeministwire.com/2013/07/checking-our-privilege-working-together-notes-on-virtual-trans-communities-truscum-blogs-and-the-politics-of-transgender-health-care/

I, also, don't believe in invalidating people's identities by calling them either transtrenders, or truscum.

Your post reminds me of why I hate identity politics. These fine toothed semantics you insist on is one of the things that made my social anxiety unbearable and kept me from acknowledging my gender dysphoria for four decades. I'm not going to answer your question.

And if you think truscum is an identity, I'm not sure if you know that it's actually a pejorative. "Truscum" is an insult hurled by self-described "tucutes." "Truscum" believe that you need an actual diagnosis of gender dysphoria to be transgender. Tucutes accuse truscum of "gatekeeping" and believe that gender dysphoria is not required to be trans, and reject therapy.

But you aren't the only one who was in denial about their own dysphoria for decades*, nor who has been harmed by identity politics. That is why I am careful with my words.

And the final sentence of my post was me pointing out that "transtrender" and "truscum" are both pejoratives and saying I wouldn't use either to describe someone.

Not the latter to describe the people who tend to call themselves "transmedicalists" nor the former which is used to deny the existence of like me* by calling us "Transtrenders."

So, yes I am aware of what you believe. I just disagree with it. I see it as identity policing. One doesn't need a doctor to tell a person they are transgender or not. Transgender is an umbrella term for a whole slew of identities many of which don't require "dysphoria."

Transsexual, on the other hand, is a term for one who chooses to transition.

*For the record if you define gender dysphoria as it is in the DSM V then I personally fit 3-4 conditions listed and have, at times, experienced distress from it. This is what is needed to be diagnosed with GD.

Who think all trans/dysphoria people are just delusional/ following a trend/ making it all up.
I'm thinking the high suicide rates of those with dysphoria and seeking to transition says otherwise.
It ISN'T a fashion statement, it isn't a myth and it is bloody hard to live with.
Teens explore things and can be downright aggravating, I'm not so down on them. It's those who make the lives of trans/dysphoria people unsafe and so hellish to the point of driving them to kill themselves that I have the problem with.
