The bluebird chicks in bird box #2 just started hatching. You can watch it live here:

Songbird Box 2 Update:
The camera you are viewing has been set up inside a songbird nest box in a field in a remote area of Murrysville, PA. There are a total of 4 nest boxes that attract bluebirds, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and wrens.

But I could never get a good look at them, so I'm not sure what kind of bird it was. They are gone, about three days now, so I assume they successfully fledged. Seems a little early for Bluebirds to have left the nest, though.

For the timing - and lots more facts about bluebirds - check out All About Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia Sialis).

You may want to clean out the nest box for the next brood - Cleaning Out Nestboxes.

One of the two parents will almost always be within line of sight of the nestbox, and when they are building the nest they will be in and out of it all day long for a few days.

A properly constructed nestbox will keep most other bird types out, except for house sparrows, which are a non-native species. Their eggs are brown, so if I find brown eggs in my nestbox, I clean out the whole nest.

They never seem to leave their nest unattended for very long if there's chicks. You can usually spot them overhead on a tree or something else higher than the nest. One guards the nest and the other forages. It helps if you have binoculars or some kind of spotting scope.

If there is eggs, you can inspect the nest without bothering them too much. So once I get a pair in my nesting box I will check the nest every week or so. Sometimes the house sparrows will lay an egg or two in the nest, so I chuck all the brown ones. Sometimes they will also kick out all the bluebird eggs, so I try to discourage them as much as possible.

Blue. I have a wooden box where you can open the side and it is clear, in order to view the nest. I did watch the whole process a couple of years ago when I first put the box up. They went through the whole cycle but the eggs did not hatch.

and builds a nest every year. I can not believe the last little robin flew out of it yesterday!!! It was only May 10th !! Seems terribly early in the season, but there it was flapping and kind of stomping its feet and then just flew off and landed in the neighbors yard, with momma close behind. Momma will be back for her second brood in a week or two......she usually has two every year. Love watching them. Thanks for sharing this site.
