Opec's oil crisis talks stumble as Iran refuses to freeze output

Ministers from Opec countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Venezuela plus other major oil producers such as Russia met in Doha to discuss a plan to limit production and protect their profits.

But Iran decided to stay away from the meeting as it does not want to cap its own production, in a move which could limit the effectiveness of any plan struck by the other nations – and which has raised tensions with Saudi Arabia.

Oil price slides as Saudi Arabia vows no production cut without Iran

Saudi Arabia will not put a brake on its oil production unless Iran and others agree to join in, the kingdom’s deputy crown prince has warned.
Mohammed bin Salman said that “if all countries agree to freeze production, we’re ready”, in reference to the other members of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) cartel.
