Atty Gen. Lynch fires back at North Carolina with counter-suit. Breaking now...

United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced Monday that the Department of Justice has filed a suit against the State of North Carolina for civil rights violations following the passing by that state's legislature in a single day of House Bill 2, or HB2, which requires people to use public restroom facilities based not on their gender self-identification, but rather their gender at birth.

It's pretty rare that a Department of Justice press conference will bring people to tears — today was a rare and historic exception.

The question is how they will run.

Today, Attorney General Loretta Lynch issued a formal response to HB2, North Carolina's anti-transgender law.
