Most avid golfers will acknowledge that you can understand the qualities of a person by their behavior when playing golf. It's a complicated game with many arcane rules. It takes a significant amount of time to play and presents many moments of joy, grief, frustration and challenge. How people react during these episodes is illustrative and what a golfer sees in their playing partners- and what they show of themselves- very often reflects the kind of person they are.
In addition, golf is a relatively unique sport in that the players adjudicate themselves; generally, there are no umpires. This requires a leap of faith among the players to trust one another. Again, you learn a lot about someone if you see them cheat.
A number of prominent athletes and writers have observed Donald Trump cheating at golf. Here's the latest:

Of course, Mr. Trump denied the claim via Twitter. He even goes so far as to claim that he's never golfed with Oscar De La Hoya and the others who've observed him cheating.
Much of the golf world admires Donald Trump because he has built and, through his organization, managed many of the most famous courses in the world. But don't count me among them. Although they are challenging, even to professionals, his courses are vastly over-priced, cheesy and vainglorious. In New York City, Mr. Trump's public course is called Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point. It costs upwards of $150 to play there. On one of the par-3 tee boxes, there's a bronze plaque stating that Mr. Trump got a hole-in-one on his inaugural round. In comparison, Bethpage State Park, site of the US Open, among other professional championships, is a half hour away and costs $38-$75.
We know that Mr. Trump cheated on his previous wives. We know that he's cheated in his business dealings. Accordingly, the golf stories ring true.
Not that it matters here. None of us are going to vote for him.

(3,585 posts)Good catch but if the cheating stories are true, then it's probably his extra golf balls for illicit dropping like Odd Job in "Goldfinger."
