General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe mind numbing vulgarity. The ignorance. The lies. The distillation of the
worst of America, it all comes together in one spray tanned, bleached, orange plumed package: The quintessential ugly American in Technicolor: Donald Trump. And nothing showcased this grotesque caricature like his rally yesterday in Charleston, West Virginia. Idiocracy, you got nothing on reality.
In front of a crowd of 13,000, the Donald preened and pontificated. He spoke of his disgust that a beautiful, beautiful product- hair spray with CFCs- had been idiotically removed from the market because of the phony climate change nonsense. He repeatedly instructed West Virginians not to bother voting in their upcoming primary because he'd already won. Never mind that silly down ballot stuff.
He courageously told Paul Ryan that he, the magnificent Trump, wasn't on board with Ryan's Congressional agenda. He promised to bring coal mining back to its glory days. He attacked Hillary Clinton using Monica Lewinsky.
His devoted fans spoke longingly of lynching President Obama on the White House lawn and the good old days.

(58,785 posts)What is Mr. Bonecutter's? Thanks for the article. It was...amazing.
He was a longtime Trump supporter who supported the nominee because he was someone with whom you knew where you stood and was sick of politicians, big money scams and coverup lies. A registered independent, he said he thought Obama was sucking Muslim tail and apologist to terrorist actions and if it was up to me wed bring back public execution and thered be several trap doors on the White House lawn. Bonecutter warned darkly that if Clinton was elected there might be another civil war.

(15,253 posts)Frankly I do not see any ray clarity on the horizon. I would have used the word "hope" but that word was taken. Even though I was critical over TPP I would take the poor man back in a flash, but he deserves a rest.

(5,141 posts)Sad to regard our fellow Americans with such disdain but there it is. When I was recently in the British Isles I spent a lot of time listening to total strangers waxing philosophic about America's decline and their puzzlement as to who in their right minds could support this buffoon. Right minds indeed.
Good to see you back, Cali.

(36,063 posts)Seems like some politicians somewhere left problems to fester too long.
Those Trump supporters are taking down the republican party.
Watching Dems poised to rush in to 'the opportunity' being created is unnerving.
It's like watching people seriously contemplate rushing in to save obsolete farm machinery from a barn with its hay mow fully in flame, when the job is about saving the house

(36,063 posts)The problem is the living breathing mass of voters with intent who promoted the assembly of the components and willing set ablaze what was the republican party.
Lightening fires are complex too...and they require all the same classes of components, except, the human element.

(18,964 posts)Movements are born of anger...raised on frustration of impotence...and, finally, matured in absolute, unreasoning, magical thinking, hero worshiping rage....(see Eric Hoffer's The True Believer)
We need to find a way of directing that rage in another manner....that's the challenge to the Democratic Party

(28,345 posts)I know many of us found amusement, perhaps nervous amusement, in the candidacy of Mr. Trump.
It's simply not funny any more.
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
* The enthusiastic support of the KKK because "what he believes, we believe in."
* His hatred and vile verbal assaults against women.
* The reduction of all women to body parts and appearance
* Birther fuckwittery
* Vaccine fuckwittery
* 911 Truther fuckwittery
* Mexicans are rapists
* His strong predilection and admiration for fascism
* Says he is interested in "closing that Internet up in some ways," "Somebody will say, 'Oh, freedom of speech, freedom of speech.' These are foolish people. We have a lot of foolish people. We have a lot of foolish people.'"
* This guy with the nuke codes
* This guy with the SCOTUS picks
* This guy with CIA briefings
There is no punchline. It just cannot be allowed to happen.
