The last two Republicans to hold the White House do not plan to endorse the party's presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump, this year.
Spokesmen for George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush told The Texas Tribune Wednesday that the 41st and 43rd presidents will stay on the sideline this time.
George W. Bush's personal aide, Freddy Ford, said that his boss "does not plan to participate in or comment on the presidential campaign."
"At age 91, President Bush is retired from politics," Bush 41 spokesman Jim McGrath wrote in an email to the website. "He came out of retirement to do a few things for Jeb, but those were the exceptions that proved the rule."

(90,978 posts)Trump will not just destroy the GOP, but the US government as well. He has NO IDEA how it is run -- not even that Paul Ryan, as Speaker of the House, is third in line for the Presidency no matter who the president is. Paul Ryan is not going to be Trump's lapdog, and he will actually have more power than Trump.
Hillary has high level politics in her very bones, but Trump has NO CLUE.
The GOP hates Hillary -- and Bill. I have watched this game for 30 years and except for Bill's zipper problem, there is no "there" there. They just hate the Clintons.
But Trump scares them. Hillary Clinton at least knows how it works, even if they don't like her or her plans.
I expect some backhanded endorsements from GOP pundits for Hillary, and I expect some of the DUers who don't know how it works to froth at the mouth that this is proof she's really a Republican in Disguise. I will be laughing -- because to the more intelligent members of the GOP she is nothing like that, she's just status quo.
jmho. It's a very weird campaign season.
