Donald Trump is a brash, ludicrously self-confident, charismatic, narcissistic, irreverent, vainglorious challenger, who defies all the conventional rules and thrives on self-generated controversy. He affixes his own pet, insulting sobriquets to his opponents ('lying' Ted,'crooked' Hillary...). He psychs his opponents out by his own unique combination of braggadocio and verbal guerilla war.
He is the arch self-promoter and self-publicist and magnetically draws media attention.
His clown's mask belies a penetrating intelligence. He has a habit of confounding the pundits by decking one opponent after another.
In light of all of this one comparison sticks out like a sore thumb: Mohammad Ali (aka Cassius Clay). I've a horrible feeling Hillary may end up as Sonny Liston to Trump's Ali/Clay.

(7,820 posts)But overall I agree with the point. We'd do well not to underestimate his appeal. Also, I think Hillary vs Trump is a horrible matchup for us- her weaknesses feed right into his strengths.

(6,719 posts)Hard to imagine tho. She has the PACs and tons of manipulation skills. I don't know. Trump really took over the repub side of things. Go run around the block! Fix oven roasted veggies for dinner and listen to the opera on PBS. Fill your mind with good things!

(31,540 posts)I have no doubt that Hillary will be able to handle Trump. He makes a lot of noise, but in the end, most voters want to hear some real answers to problems, and Trump only gives them bluster.
