General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhen anyone runs for public office, some things should not matter.
In my mind, these include:
1. Age
2. Sex
3. Skin color/ethnicity
What does matter includes their honesty, ability to think on their feet, ability to see global issues clearly and so on...
Just my two cents!

(1,786 posts)I agree with #1 for any office except President....however before John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his VP I would have agreed with #1 across the board for any office.

(62,444 posts)Aside from the fact that being at least 35 is a condition for the office of president, I don't believe children in general should hold office.

(149,699 posts)I was thinking more of the upper/older end.

(62,444 posts)But I fail to understand what is magic about 35

(22,165 posts)While I don't think there should be an upper limit cut off (or disqualification), I do believe it is a legitimate consideration.

(64,933 posts)local city council and running for POTUS. One job takes 40-60 hours of "work" a year and the other is a 24x7 stress filled job. Just ask Frank Underwood!!

(33,400 posts)POTUS is a fucking hard job. Maybe the worst job on the planet.
I'm sorry that it does, but Sander's age gives me pause; he'll be 75 on Election Day - by far the oldest President at inauguration. Average life expectancy for an American Male is what, 79 at best?
But both Clinton and Trump are 69, so what the hell. Let's roll the dice. If he drops dead in office after 3 years, fine.
Anything's better than a Republican.

(149,699 posts)Bernie has been checked out by his doctor who pronounced him healthy and fit for doing that job. He does have some health issues but none that would be so serious as to interfere.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)If you make it past childhood illnesses and accidents, you can expect to live a lot longer than 79.
The 79 figure is average life expectancy from birth.

(65,616 posts)word - it is far too late. So maybe...I dunno, people should THINK about what they do and the consequences of their actions and how it will affect the people on the planet and their future offspring.
IOW, if a person doesn't want their grave pissed on then maybe they should have led a better life and try to leave a positive impact on the world?
There is a huge difference between being famous and infamous.
