*****February Photo Contest Preliminaries Thread #1*****

Last edited Wed Feb 24, 2016, 03:43 PM - Edit history (2)

Come vote for your favorite photos! There are two threads to vote in so make sure you check out both and please help keep these polls kicked.

Poll Thread #2: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027635797

The them this month was Back to the Future: Stuff that used to be considered the cutting edge of technology - things, places, etc which at one time were the awesome newest tech on earth and now are abandoned to the past.

This is the preliminary vote on all entries then there will be a final vote based on the results of these two polls.

The winner of the contest agrees to host the next month's contest (or recruit someone else to host the contest), and pick the next month's theme. The host of the monthly contest cannot enter the contest they are hosting.

Note: This contest is posted in GD with permission from Skinner.

CONTEST LICENSE:

An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia or to a linked Gallery and included in a DU Calendar that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.

38. In memory of the only car I ever loved. My old '61 TR3

A car I spent as much time pushing as driving. But, on the rare occasions it did run, it was a great ride. Some idiot stole it and I always imagined the poor boob pushing it to some hidey hole to rust away.

I bought my 1st Triumph when I was 19. It was an eight year old TR3 that was a pile of junk, but it set me on a lifetime interest. I've since owned several, culminating in the TR6 I have today.

Your old '61 probably didn't get baled for scrap metal. Parts have always been sought after and many can be brought back to life after years of neglect. The building in the entered image above is a recycling warehouse here in NE Ohio specializing in British automotive called "Team Triumph". it's owned by a good friend and I work there part time in my retirement, along with a few like minded fellow retirees.

We tear apart abandoned Triumphs, Austin Healys, and MGs, warehouse the parts, and ship all over the world. Nothing restorable is torn apart and we keep better examples on the road indefinitely.

The place is more akin to a museum inside:

This is me in my old age milieu of retirement camp:

While at that shop we disassemble Triumphs, another good friend owns a garage here where Triumphs are put back together from the frame up. I hang out there in my spare time. Who knows, parts from your baby may live on in this restored TR3:

Every TR owner that I've spoken to have jokes about Lucas and windshield wipers that go on when you attempt to light the headlights or engines that will only start when the taillights are off.

I also had a BSA motorcycle when in the marines. Aka: Bastard Stopped Again

After the 68 XKE, I decided to stick with PG Tips Tea to satisfy my urge to relive my heritage.

A Painful lesson indeed.

It's my experience that people who find themselves buried in electrical problems have more of a problem with rusted ground connections than the Lucas design itself. There are many grounds that can't even be seen with the body on frame.

Then again, I never can get both horns to work at the same time on my TR6.
