(38,958 posts)I-44 was shut down yesterday and I believe water is still rising with area crests on Friday. It's pretty much a mess for anyone wanting to travel in the area and for many, many folks who live here that homes or businesses in danger.

(16,254 posts)My family is flying out of SL to the Rose Bowl today. There shouldn't be any problem with that, right? It's been years since I was in SL and I can't picture where this flooding is.

(38,958 posts)and the area around it. Your family should be fine going to the airport, depending upon what direction they are coming from to get there. Pretty much anything close to a river or stream (and there are a whole bunch of them) would be a cause for concern, but the airport is fine. I drove past it yesterday on my commute.

(18,101 posts)The good thing was; there was plenty of warning. MODOT was telling people to decide which side of the river they wanted to be on today.
it will take awhile for things to return to normal, things to the South seem to be worse. I was talking with a vendor yesterday that told me that their parking lot was flooding along Gravios and his boss met him to get his car keys to move his vehicle to higher ground.

(1,697 posts)I lived near there and I remember many floods and high water. This sounds like a really bad one.

(13,390 posts)This is nothing like the yearly or so minor flash flood. Some people have died and many others have lost their homes. There are other parts of the state that are affected, too. This map shows the road closures across the state.

(3,208 posts)but this has affected us by closing off all routes into most of St. Louis county! It has been amazing and a good reminder of what the planet can do.
I remember the flood of 1982 (which makes me look like such an old geezer to my young adult children!). It looks like the levee they built since then has really helped Valley Park. Both of my daughters work in a senior living community in Valley Park (which is usually a 20 minute commute but yesterday took 4 hours). Oddly enough, their dad worked in a nursing home in Valley Park in '82. World of difference between the places, but a funny coincidence.
Major clean up ahead. I did not have anywhere to go these past few days but it is a funny feeling having all routes cut off!
I live near the Antire over pass and we went there this morning. Very surreal to see Interstate 44 completely empty! I said the wildlife in the area must be thinking the humans have finally done themselves in!
