ST. CLOUD, Fla. (AP) — Police in central Florida say a mother mistook her daughter for an intruder and shot her to death.

St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday the mother was asleep when she heard someone enter her home late Tuesday.

The mother told police she heard footsteps approaching quickly so she fired a single shot. She then discovered the person was her 27-year-old daughter.

See? More guns do make us safer.

So of course, it was a good guy with a gun.

The mom has to live with this for the rest of her days. I imagine her life will be hell.

Do the dead regret having no more days? Death is a puzzle to me. But I think it's only the living who feel good, bad, or indifferent about death.

As for gun owners, I don't know that it's determined who owned the gun. If someone in the house was in Law Enforcement, the gun might be owned by the city or the police force. Nobody's talking about restricting their rights. Police, and to some extent their spouses, get special "courtesy".

gunshot is far from instantaneous. So she had that to deal with that. And she doesn't get to see what the future will bring in science, technology, medicine, etc. At 27, she had a good chance of living another 60 years. Possible by then humans will have conquered death.

What are the odds?
Just multiply that out if the NRA were to achieve their greatest desire, a gun in every hand.

I hope this woman is locked up for a good long time to think.

"Detectives are investigating the case but say so far the mother's story matches the evidence."

Yes, the evidence that this woman is a danger to society and needs to be prosecuted.

For one thing, there's the common refrain...."It was a horrible accident, and the mother has been through enough." That's more than enough to prevent any charge whatsoever.

Then there's the fact the mother is probably the "law enforcement" restricting the revealing of her name. We all know that cops don't ever really investigate their own, nor will they do anything but lie and withhold evidence if they found the mother was in fact committing a crime. Heck, they wouldn't do it if the woman had shot an innocent stranger on the street, why would they do it here? Even if factors determined something more sinister going on.

Then of course there's the fact it happened in Florida, and we know that things don't ever go in a "normal" manner in Florida when it comes to guns and shooting of innocents.

My guess is that there was nobody else in the house, and that the gun's owner is in fact the "law enforcement" mentioned.

Cops like to shoot first and ask questions later, so I believe that is exactly what happened in this case.

Too bad the "intruder" turned out to be a family member. Oh well, at least she'll probably get to keep her gun, and her job, so she'll live to shoot another day.

Children come and go, but guns are forever.

If you're going to break one of the first rules may as well be to properly ID the target.

I have a light on my HD PSD for just such a reason. Safety first, shooting a family member never.

Poor lady I cannot imagine what that must be like, it would be one thing to get a call about an car accident etc. However having to call the police and tell them you killed your own daughter.

Horrible.
