WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama called former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney on Wednesday to congratulate him for wrapping up the Republican U.S. presidential nomination and wish him well in their battle for the White House, Obama's campaign said.
"President Obama said that he looked forward to an important and healthy debate about America's future, and wished Governor Romney and his family well throughout the upcoming campaign," the Obama campaign said in a statement.
Romney, whose main rivals had long since dropped out of the race, clinched his party's nomination on Tuesday night after securing the number of delegates needed after the Texas Republican primary.

(6,539 posts)It is ironic because Mitt's life goal is to be on another planet in which he is god. (It's a Mormon thing.)
Oh, and don't forget that while these two exchange pleasantries, Mitt is planning to steal grandma's social security and basically make our planet inhabitable for anyone not in the 1%.

(86,013 posts)According to the White House, Obama called Romney just before noon to congratulate him on securing the Republican presidential nomination after he won the Texas GOP primary on Tuesday . . .
Romney, who has no public events on Wednesday, was on the West Coast when the call came in at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time, according to a campaign aide.
The call was brief and cordial, and Romney thanked the president for his congratulations and wished him and his family well, the aide said.
