OVERLAND PARK, Kan. A Missouri man with at least 14 prior drunken driving convictions is facing a new DUI charge after a traffic accident and altercation in Johnson County, Kan.
The Kansas City Star reports that John Charles Howard, 50, of Branson, was arrested this week by Overland Park police on a report that he wrecked his car and threatened another man with a knife.

(46,369 posts)Even if he gets thrown into jail for years, he'll have booze smuggled in, or he'll make his own by fermenting fruit.
The day he gets out, he'll down a fifth or two in less than an hour.

(60,010 posts)In all my years of addiction work, I have seen the same thing played out over and over.
One of the most memorable was the guy who was released from 5 years in prison for vehicluar manslaughter
( he was DUI at the time of that incident)
court ordered probation AND Anta-buse, drank while on the antabuse, showed up for my program drunk, the court was notified, but 2 days later hit another car headon, at 3 am, both drivers died.
Ironically, the other driver was also DUI...
No license for years, btw..and had borrowed the car he died in.
This was in North Fla.
"ain't nobody gonna tell me what I can't do"...famous last words.

(20,441 posts)He belongs in a mental health facility undergoing detox and rehabilitation, if possible. If he can't be rehabilitated, then he should become a permanent ward of the state and never be allowed to drive a vehicle or leave the property without supervision.
If he isn't stopped, he's going to kill somebody.

(60,352 posts)You don't get out of multiple arrests for the same crime with public defenders.
These habitual offenders usually keep their lawyer paid.
