Joe Scarborough responds that the Senate minority leader is 'blinded by hatred.'

As he launched his anti-Koch broadside, Reid read excerpts of the brothers Morning Joe interview on the Senate floor -- including Scarboroughs inquiry on whether the Kochs got their graciousness in philanthropy from their mother, or Brzezinski asking them who was the better brother.
The "Morning Joe" hosts did press the Kochs on more substantive issues, such as whether it was fair for a relatively small number of wealthy families to have contributed an overwhelming amount of the campaign cash in the 2016 race, according to a recent New York Times report. Still, Reid noted: Sometimes, most of the time there werent even questions. There were just compliments.
Wow. Those were some really tough questions asked by the host of Morning Joe. Thats sufficient journalism, Reid said Wednesday morning from the Senate floor. Those questions are so easy, they may even qualify them to moderate the next Republican presidential debate.
We should be working to rid the system of the Koch brothers dark money, but this cannot and will not happen if reporters and journalists refuse to ask Charles and David Koch questions, maybe even probing questions, Reid said. Otherwise, no one is holding these two oil barons accountable for their nefarious actions."

(23,091 posts)They didn't one time ask about John Birch Society which their father founded. They didn't question their bonafides on the environment, even when Koch told an out and out lie. They are dirty and their GA Pacific dealings with FL waterways proves it all day. They put down crony capitalist but don't tell the truth that that's exactly what they are. They made many of their billions from the government paying them insane rates, (zero income tax, let me add) for their oil services businesses. It was so vile and sickening, I was yelling at them to actually ask him important questions and quit the freaking love fest as I turned off the TV.

(1,508 posts)really believe anything different would happen? Joe Scarborough has been carrying water for the Oligarchs since he left congress, or should I say since before he even got into congress. I'm sure the Koch's probably had something to do with his getting elected to congress and are probably trying to interest him in carrying water for them again since he has a morning talk show that can be a perfect platform for them, a perfect way to reach millions of Americans everyday.

(2,574 posts)Yep, absolutely painful and a gross example of journalistic malpractice. I recorded the whole thing & watched it yesterday. Not only did these 2 MSNBC nitwits tongue bath and support the vile, lying, delusional Kochs, they actually pulled in Kansas "witnesses" to Koch rave. (of course zero mention that their Brownback puppet has bankrupted Kansas following idiotic Koch "economics."
Here's a few unchallenged Koch remarks from the interview: It's ok for 150 richest families to control the political process because "they have the right intentions" Repeated remarks about how their work is "philantrophy and social welfare". And their explanation for America's wealth inequality boiled down to the "disadvantaged" not having a strong work ethic and paternal role model (like their Bircher father beat and brainwashed into them)
These brothers have the same mindset as Ben Carson actually. Scientifically very educated, condescending and cold, yet completely devoid of intellectual fluency or emotional maturity. I guess as a document into their hermetic sociopathic minds and universe, this was interesting. But we already knew they were monsters and live in a closed system that exists for their insatiably self serving ends to poison our environment and pollute our discourse.

(17,505 posts)Is that why they renamed the "NY State Theater" the "David H Koch Theatre"? To be gracious?
If you want to name it after someone, why not the "George M Balanchine Theater"? The architect built it to his specifications....for his ballet company. He's kinda the reason it's there.
If they help preserve Mt Rushmore, will they "graciously" name it "Mt Koch"?
The art of the tax right off....
If we had a robust NEA, we wouldn't need so much gracious patronage, a la the 18th century....

(53,661 posts)Reid has always been saavy and courageous despite the ignoratti GOP. They derailed momentum when his releases on the Koch agenda came out and was gathering air time. So the media diverted the public with Bundysville. When Reid's disclosure was derailed long enough to make the public forget, they left the story and moved on. It has been played from all sides by the Koch brothers and their shills. Thanks for posting this.

(22,669 posts)But Reid is partially right. While I personally don't have a problem with dark money, I'm not naive about how people are swayed by its effects in ads. I just don't understand why people get swayed by it. We all know money corrupts politics. Therefore vote against where the big money is going and voila! We'll start getting people elected who really do care about the voters and not the donors.
Simple.
