(14,378 posts)Lev 15:19-24 states you are to have no contact with a woman who is menstruating
Lev 25:44 says you may possess slaves as long as you purchase them from neighboring nations
Lev 11:10 says eating shellfish is an abomination. Like being with a man if you're a man (hey, they don't mention women, does that mean it's OK for them? )
Lev 21:20 says you can't approach the altar of God if you have a defect in your sight. (no contacts, dude)
Lev 19:27 says you shouldn't cut the hair around your temples, ever. We should be a totally rasta nation.
Lev 11:6-8 says no touching pigs or their skins. No bacon, no football.
Lev 19:19 says no planting two crops in the same field. I guess Monsanto is in trouble. They often have two plants in the same seed. It also says no garments with more than one type of thread. So most of your clothes don't work.
Lev 24 10-16 says if someone swears or blasphemes, the whole town should stone them to death.
Lev 20:14 says if you sleep with your in laws, you should die.
and of course, other biblical books make relationship pronouncements:
Duteronomy 22:13-21
"a marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed."
So let's get biblical, people! First, strip down to your cotton undies! WHo's got the gasoline and rocks?

Today, it's cow leather with a polyurethane bladder.

(56,829 posts)for "Menstruating"? Then, us men will know to avoid her? or, should women just stay inside as shut-ins instead? That way, they don't have to chance contact with men.

(28,514 posts)But even if they were, that's Jewish tradition and not how modern Christian Biblical literalists interpret the text. When they bother to read it in its entirety, that is.

(24,634 posts)Remember Christians use the same few books as found in Judaism. Problem is, we are supposed to follow all the rules of the bible and there is no, one rule for Rabbi's only since Christianity has no Rabbi's.
As a point of clarity Judaism forbids tattoos for everyone--not just Rabbi's. If you have a tattoo, you can't be buried, ditto for piercings I believe. I lived with a Jewish family. The girl did get her ears pierced but her mother was a bit more lax on the rules.

(28,514 posts)This was why the Jews in the concentration camps felt additionally violated when their arms were tattooed with prisoner numbers. I remember some discussion about letting those survivors be buried in Jewish cemeteries but believe it was decided by most if not all that an exception could be made in those circumstances because the tattoos were forced upon them.

(82,383 posts)But if I did, it would be a beautiful design. It would never be a quote from Leviticus against homosexuality. This person is insane about the subject. Even being a sincerely religious person who believes it is wrong - there's something more to it to get tattooed to make that point.

(2,577 posts)While they are busy screaming about Leviticus 18:22, they are forgetting that there is a SECOND book in their bible called the New Testament. In THAT book, Jesus, the person they profess to follow sets forth TWO commandments that all should follow and indicates the old laws have been replaced. Jesus, who spent HIS time hanging with the poor and marginalized, told his followers to love God and their neighbor. Jesus NEVER talked about homosexuality. He spent most of his time addressing income inequality and urged his followers to care for each other.
Sure wouldn't want to do THAT now, would we? Better we take a specific verse of Leviticus literally and IGNORE all that being kind and loving and sharing stuff.
