Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declined an opportunity to attack the Obama campaign for scrutinizing Mitt Romneys record at Bain Capital. Instead, at his weekly Capitol briefing, he provided GOP surrogates everywhere a textbook example of how to change the subject, and then damn with faint praise.

Poor Mitch! He's aligned with Bush, the worst President ever, and trying to hide behind myths.
First things first. Bush's economic record sucked! Even the WSJ agrees:
By WSJ Staff
President George W. Bush entered office in 2001 just as a recession was starting, and is preparing to leave in the middle of a long one. Thats almost 22 months of recession during his 96 months in office.
His job-creation record wont look much better. The Bush administration created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the 23 million jobs created under President Bill Clintons administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush did in his four years in office.
Heres a look at job creation under each president since the Labor Department started keeping payroll records in 1939. The counts are based on total payrolls between the start of the month the president took office (using the final payroll count for the end of the prior December) and his final December in office.
Because the size of the economy and labor force varies, we also calculate in percentage terms how much the total payroll count expanded under each president. The current President Bush, once taking account how long hes been in office, shows the worst track record for job creation since the government began keeping records.

Secondly, Bush's economic record sucked before the crisis.
The employment recovery during Mr. Bush's first term was very sluggish, and private employment was down 913,000 jobs at the end of his first term. The recovery has been sluggish under Mr. Obama's presidency too, but there are now 35 thousand more private sector payroll jobs than when Mr. Obama's term started.

Finally, Bush's entire Presidency sucked!

Now, whatever anyone wants to say about Carter, his job-creation record makes Bush an embarrassment.
Under Carter, more than 10 million jobs were created (and that's in one term). That's about 5 million jobs more than both Bushes combined. That's 2 million more than Reagan's average. By comparison, Reagan only created 5 million jobs in his first term. In fact, during the Clinton years, there were more jobs created (23 million, two terms) than Reagan (16 million in two terms) and both Bushes (5.5 million across three terms), combined. In terms of average job creation, Carter is third, behind Clinton and Reagan's second term.

Republicans can't seem to live down the embarrassment that was the Bush Presidency, a disgraceful record they helped to perpetrate, so they must rely on obfuscation and red herrings.

Mitch and Republicans are having a hard time trying push their propaganda because their attempt at sabotage hasn't worked out exactly as they had hoped. Things got done despite them.
President Obama's rescue of the auto industry is a big problem for Republicans

(16,254 posts)It's too bad those hateful, disrespectful congresspersons don't just leave...the country, if possible. The damage they've done to this country makes me ill. I don't know if I can make it through this election. I have a sick feeling about it.
I also don't appreciate certain Democrats shooting off their mouths to protect their jobs.

(103,856 posts)Very few (if ANY) notable dems EVER come to Carter's defense. By "going along" or allowing this to continue, they make it "true".
This is how we became the DemocRAT party, and how almost ALL repub spokespeople say things prefaced by :
"Everyone knows that......."
"We all know that....."
"It's a well-known fact that....."
etc
They talk fast..they interrupt every 7 seconds (there's actually a training class that teaches this technique)..they are bold, boisterous and they lie every time they open their mouths and they get away with it because no one ever calls them on their bullshit
