Yeah, I know, it's Rasmussen, but it is in line with other recent polls showing support for pot legalization trending upward and going above 50%.
Legalization will be on the ballot in Colorado and Washington, and may make the ballot in Oregon, Montana, Michigan, and Nebraska (in descending order of likelihood).
Colorado is a swing state. Could be interesting.

56% Favor Legalizing, Regulating Marijuana
Thursday, May 17, 2012
A solid majority of voters nationwide favor legalizing and regulating marijuana similar to the way alcohol and tobacco cigarettes are currently regulated. Most also dont believe it should be a crime for people to smoke marijuana in the privacy of their own homes.
A new national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that 56% favor legalizing and regulating marijuana in a similar manner to the way alcohol and tobacco cigarettes are regulated. Thirty-six percent (36%) are opposed to such a legalizing and regulating pot. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters nationwide was conducted on May 12, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

(2,335 posts)But the legalization measure in WA and COL are our stealth weapon. When they pass, the whole war on drugs machine gets blown up.................by the people. It's the only way it will happen

(8,556 posts)Once one of them does pass, that can be used as an argument against RWers who oppose it. Of course, this issue doesn't entirely shake out that way - there are plenty on the right who support legalization and some on the left who don't.
But anyway, RW opponents of gay marriage love to point to all of those ballot initiatives that have restricted the definition of marriage to one man and one woman. But if we win these, we can throw it right back at them.
I hope that these measures pass because if they do, I think it might be impossible to stop MMJ and possibly decriminalization from spreading to the rest of the country.
