Students suspended for riding bycicles

More than 60 Kenowa Hills High School seniors have been suspended one day because they caused a two-mile traffic jam while participating in a bike ride to school, administrators said.

The ride was Tuesday morning and included an escort from the mayor of Walker and officers from the city police department.

The punishment includes the students being banned from participating in the annual senior walk through the school halls on their last day, which is Tuesday.

Uh, kids, always wear a helmet. There is a vital organ inside your skull.

Someone has a problem there in that town. The mayor and police were involved in this ride? School administration is often very strange.

OK, we have the climate for it and bike-friendly terrain and streets. I've learned to avoid certain areas when school lets out because the streets are thronged with kids on bikes. Not that they're doing anything wrong, there's just a lot of them.

I think this was a great creative idea on the seniors' part, and from the article it looks like they did put some planning into making it safe and fun. Maybe the school administrator needs to be suspended for a day or more.

I'm sure it's all Obama's fault If Michelle hadn't been going around promoting exercise and physical activity I'm sure the students would have settled for the more traditional firecracker pranks.

"Kenowa Superintendent Gerald Hopkins admitted to 24 Hour News 8 the reaction and punishment from school officials was as much showing them who's in charge as it was reacting to problems they claim were caused by the prank. "

Showing departing pupils "who's in charge" is clearly the act of an insecure person who needs remedial instruction in how to lead. Especially when the mayor and police were fine with what the pupils did in the town.
