Behind Trump, the GOP Really Is Becoming the Racist Party

The Donald is getting the backing of the white supremacist crowd, and the GOP from Priebus on down says nothing. Draw your own conclusion.
Let me offer some friendly advice to the Republican Party that I learned firsthand as a Muslim American: You don’t want to be defined by your most extreme members. And here’s a little more advice. The longer the GOP leadership remains silent as Donald Trump garners increasing support from white supremacist organizations, the more likely the GOP will become known as the party of racists.

I know, some of my progressive friends will say that’s already the case. But that’s not fair. Sure there are racists drawn to the GOP, just like we have seen psychopaths attracted to Islam. I’m sure not all Republicans are racists and I bet some are even disgusted by bigotry.

We are, however, seeing a bone chilling attraction to Trump by white nationalist groups. It’s almost like they view Trump’s candidacy as their last stand against the changing demographics of America. He’s become the poster child for their philosophy that “White Lives Matter More.”

For example, just last week David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux, publicly praised Trump as the best Republican candidate in the 2016 field because he “understands the real sentiment of America.” Duke applauded Trump’s views on immigration that call for mass deportation of families, saying that Trump is ”speaking out on this greatest immediate threat to the American people.”

Trump’s tepid response to Duke’s glowing praise was troubling to say the least: “I certainly wouldn’t want his endorsement. I don’t need anyone’s endorsement.” When pressed by a reporter to repudiate Duke, Trump responded, “Sure, I would if that would make you feel better.”

accurate.

White privilege is out of control in the white controlled corporate mass media.

Who really believes the white privileged corporate mass media isn't self-serving to corporations and their own?

Bill Maher got it right about the corporate media creating their own silly summer political toything to juice the xenophobia, and fear of xenophobia, to keep those wandering summer eyes glued to the Boob Tube.

A little self-promotion is in order:

They have ALWAYS been racist. Trump has given them permission to be open about it. When they claim that Trump is saying the things they've been wanting to hear....they mean he's saying it's okay to hate blacks, Hispanics and whoever else didn't come over on the Mayflower or whoever doesn't choose a lifestyle exactly like theirs. These good Christians basically have decided to do the opposite of everything that Jesus taught. Like non-judgement, loving your neighbor, helping the poor and sick...etc. Jesus is only good for getting them a ticket to heaven.

They feel that if they can get all the white people to vote, that can swing the election. The only question then is "how many of them will support a racist"?

The John Birch Society came into the world Republican. It was also racist. That was in the late fifties and early sixties. However, the far right did not dominate the GOP as it does now and the Birch Society was treated like the crazy uncle it was -- the GOP was happy to get the Birchers cleaned, dressed and taken to the polls on election day, but otherwise they were confined to the attic It wasn't until the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that Republicans began to see real opportunities in attracting hard line segregationists to their fold; Strom Thurmond switched to the GOP upon passage of the act and in 1968 was instrumental in getting Richard Nixon support from Southerners in his quest for the presidency. From that time on, the crazy uncle was out of the attic and eating at the dinner table with the rest of the family.

....to run amuck.

The U.S. has from time to time had nativist movements and isolationist movements and binges of warmongering, not to mention the racist streak that sometimes is drummed out of polite society but is still always there lurking in the fetid shadows.

I'm not sure if we've ever seen such a toxic brew of All of the Above in such mass quantities before this, however.

If the GOP nominates Trump, we are in bad shape, because the money will follow him.

No matter who the Democrats nominate will have a terrible time against him, because he fights as dirty as Nixon without the veneer of intelligence and statesmanship. Count on sweet Bernie to be called a Commie. Just for argument's sake, let's say it's Hillary -- the GOP just dusts off their old Clinton playbook and does some more oppo research at DU to see which parts of their message of lies are being embraced by the left.

Our biggest hope is that Trump leaves the GOP in a golden huff and forms his own party. The GOP powers that be and intelligentsia are already having sweating nightmares about that, because they fear it would destroy the GOP for a couple of generations. Well, from their lips to God's ears.
