It has been suggested that the Republican war against President Obama is not being waged because of political ideological differences, but instead, is a thinly veiled disguise for racism against the first black president of the United States.
If this is true, no one should expect anyone on the Republican side of the aisle to actually admit it. But actions do speak louder than words.
There has been a rebellious trend in government since Obama took office that has brought both governing and Americans' view of Congress to historic lows.
Compromise has surrendered to hardline conservative views and deliberate Republican threats and acts have been so profound, they have actually harmed the entire county. Evidence of this can be found in the 2011 debt ceiling battle. Why would any governing body take their own nation to the brink of economic disaster with the threat of credit default, when money was available to pay the country's bills with what has historically been a routine vote?

(25,406 posts)with him being hounded over Whitewater etc., accused of murdering his enemies, derided as a "bubba", I think it's more that Obama is a Democrat than that he's black.

So now they're going to run a richie rich "questionable Christian" (my uber Fundie uncle's term) against the incumbent on the idea that a black guy can't win.

(13,205 posts)Republicans desperately wanted a do-over after Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress essentially wrecked the country. They didn't want Obama to succeed after their horrible failure. That would make it look like Republican ideas are idiotic and that they are unworthy to govern. I.e., the truth would have been revealed. So they had to sabotage Obama and the Democrats to try to make sure they failed too.
Is there racism there? Sure. But it's a lot, perhaps mostly, about humiliation over George W. Bush and the economic free fall their policies created. Assholes can never admit it when they are wrong. They are dishonest, and they never learn anything. Seem familiar?
