As you probably know, the natural law in lion society is that when a male dies and his weakened coalition is usurped, the new incoming males kill their predecessors cubs. This may not happen because Cecils brother is still holding the fort, said project leader David Macdonald.
WildCRU also revealed that it had received £230,000 in donations as a result of the global outrage caused by the death of the black maned lion, who had been named after Cecil Rhodes, the British imperialist who founded Rhodesia.

(61,772 posts)Zimbabwe, where he committed a crime, is trying to extradite him. The U.S. might agree if authorities find him, but otherwise there's nothing for LE to do here. Palmer didn't violate U.S. laws this time.
Palmer was prosecuted by U.S. authorities for a previous crime in which he killed a bear.
How would any of this be different if he were black?

(7,365 posts)I am no Lion biologist, but often prides are run by multiple males I believe. One male will not be able to fend off two. Also, depending how old the cubs are, it is POSSIBLE a new pride male would NOT kill them. The younger they are the more imperiled they will be.

(11,441 posts)to hide/block threads. It *ain't* difficult. You're tired of the story? TOUGH SHIT. Move on to threads you (supposedly) care about.
That smarmy dentist's $55,000 blood money doesn't match NEAR the revenue brought in by Cecil and his pride. Make that Jericho now, defending two prides.
"If one lion is shot from the coalition, it weakens the coalition and results not just in the death of that one lion, but the death, probably, of his companions, because the weakened coalition will be overtaken by the stronger coalition which in turn will kill the cubs of their predecessors," Animal Planet's Dave Salmoni told CBS News. "So it may well be that the death of just one lion leads to the deaths of several more, and for a species that is declining fast, that is very bad news."

That's some fucking "conservation." Fuck Palmer, and everyone involved in these trophy hunts.

"I would annex the stars if I could," said Rhodes.
"I contend that we are the first race in the world," Rhodes wrote, "and that the more of the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race...If there be a God, I think that what he would like me to do is paint as much of the map of Africa British Red as possible..."
Said Mark Twain of Cecil Rhodes: "I admire him, I frankly confess it; and when his time comes I shall buy a piece of the rope for a keepsake."
Well, can't very well hold what others do against a majestic animal who certainly thought of himself in better terms.
