WILLIARD, Ohio - A Williard woman is dead after a neighbor shot her for mowing her lawn too late at night, the Huron County Sheriff's Office said.
Linda Ciotto, 62, was found outside her Kirkwood Drive home just after 11 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies tried to make contact with 50-year-old James Blair, who was next door, but he had barricaded himself in his home.
Blair refused to come out of his home for five hours, deputies said. After negotiations failed, deputies report that they deployed tear gas and Blair was arrested.

(23,946 posts)Guns laying around in numbers like grains of sand on a beach make killing your neighbour and yourself SO much easier....and so much more final.
Fucking NRA must go the way of the Dixie Swastika.
This may be one of the only major things we agree on FS, but I'm 110% with you here! Too many unstable & stupid people (majority repubs) who are armed & dangerous in the US. Much bigger threat. Well said.

(29,065 posts)their numbers equal that of the citizenry of 320 million.
There are a lot of guns in the US, but that's because the distinct minority
who do own them, tend to own more than one..

(2,493 posts)Is to blame the NRA and "320 million guns"? How about you give it a rest? And if you are so fired up about getting rid of guns then drum up the support to make it happen. Wait, we both know THAT won't happen, so . . . I guess you just get to keep blaming every murder on the NRA and "gunz," and ignore the human criminals actually responsible for these crimes.

If you ever watch the daytime court shows, they're full of neighbor disputes. Seriously sad and disturbing.

(17,595 posts)No you don't shoot someone for being loud at night, you call the cops.
But who the eff mows their lawn at 11 pm?
So yeah must have been something between them already, OR she was stoned or something.
Either way no reason to shoot her in the head. RIP.
He could have called the cops regarding noise ordinances. It must have been personal.
Completely unnecessary loss of life.

ETA: I also suspect alcohol was involved.

(2,493 posts)What exactly is that? I mean, specifically, what is the "cult of the gun"? I'd like to know to make sure I'm not part of that cult, and can stay out of its way.

(9,527 posts)and while I kind of wished one of us would die in the moment (I wasn't especially picky about which one of us given the migraine), it never occurred to me that I should go get a gun and shoot him.
Unfortunately people with guns often make very stupid decisions which have permanent consequences. I don't get it. Were we always this unbelievably stupid with guns, or has it gotten worse?

(12,665 posts)News stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about efforts to strengthen or weaken gun control legislation in any jurisdiction in the United States, national news stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about high-profile gun crimes, and viral political content from social media or blogs that would likely be of interest to a large majority of DU members are permitted under normal circumstances.
Local stories about gun crime and "gun porn" threads showing pictures of guns or discussing the merits of various firearms are not permitted under normal circumstances and should be posted in the Gun Control and RKBA Group.
Open discussion of guns is permitted during very high-profile news events which are heavily covered across all newsmedia.
Please consider re-posting in one of the gun groups. Thank You!
