who applaud and work for the very things I came here to unite with real progressive Democrats to fight against. There was a time when almost everyone here was united against the beliefs and actions of corporatism, neo-conservatism and the neo-cons. We had thoughtful, meaningful discussions about topics of critical importance. Brilliant progressive minds devised long, thoughtful, meaningful posts on critical issues.
It was a time when we were united in purpose, and the acronym "tl;dnr" did not exist.
It's not like that anymore. We can barely get out two posts without some jabbering corporatist strawman post disrupting conversation.
DU has been becoming increasingly more conservative and anti-progressive over the past 6 years, and this house divided is fast becoming a waste of time for many.
That said, there are a number of lovely, intelligent progressive posters, like yourself, Logical, who have come here over the last six years, and I believe that you would have loved DU back in the beginning of this century, because, back then, it was truly representative of the progressive values that you obviously believe in.
This is only part of how I personally feel, but I'm quite sure you get it.
And you know, I'm really not in the market for a good hard fracking, or another used car, at this time.

Cruel, ugly pile ons again and again just don't tickle my funny bone. Neither does any other kind of ugly bullying. Go figure.
DU makes it fairly easy to engage with the site on one's own terms (such as by ignoring any people or posts that you find to be unpleasant).
Among other things ,that description would have fit every snarker on the 24 hour thread 9 years ago and on its successors, including the one from a few days ago and many on this thread. One joins a discussion board to discuss, not to put an entire sector of the board on ignore. Besides, certain things need rebuttal I have never believed that the way to deal with a bully is to ignore him or her. They don't go away. They just get emboldened and escalate.
However, yes, I am aware of ignore. I used to wonder why people used it, but I finally did last year I the past year, I added maybe 4 more. In the past 24 hours I added about 10. And I will probably add as many more in the next 24 hours.
ETA: I don't think Will left because he couldn't take a joke. Like so many others on the left, he left because of what DU is, not because of what he lacks.
I posted I was leaving too, weeks ago. It was so bad here that I looked into actually deleting my account. I figured that I would lay low for a few weeks, get over my little temper tantrum, and then come back. Well, guess what? All the research I could find indicates that you can never delete your account from DU. That in itself is a big problem. You can never delete an account?!!!! Are you kidding me? What kind of site is this where you cannot delete your account? The answer I was getting was, "Just don't visit the site". Yeah, that's an option, but not the right answer.
This is my first login since then. And now William is leaving? WTH is going on here? One of the greatest posters here, and now he's gone? Something is definitely wrong here. And throughout the posts here, I see another one leaving? WTF!!!!

I've been here about as long as you, and I burned out on the politics of it all long ago. In the olden days when this place was alive and exciting I used to compete with you (in my mind) for post-worthiness, and I even managed to out-rec you from time to time. But my circuits fried and I retreated to the Lounge, where I now occasionally post cat pics and do little else. I only hang here 'cause I don't do social media, and I know the folks here. Politics notwithstanding, it's a comfortable place for me to catch the latest headlines and chill.
Best of luck to you in your wanderings. I have but one gripe with you, and it's a biggie- NO MORE PICS OF YOUR KID????
