Death is a part of human life. It is an ending and a beginning of chapter varying by personal beliefs.
Do you fear Death?
I do not. I tend to agree with this very short but well said satetment :
I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it. - Mark Twain
Do you?

(23,375 posts)... as much as they use the fear of hell-fire, eternal damnation, that sort of annoying thing. Not to mention the fear of being hounded by Christian evangelicals.

(15,064 posts)of hell fire and damnation came along far into the evolution process. They are taking a fear and turning it into something ethereal.

(28,394 posts)I fear the pain and illness and loss of independence that is likely to precede it. A peaceful death in one's sleep is not as scary.

(31,989 posts)With terminal illness - its just between him and me . . . But those words hit home.
I think I fear for those I leave behind. I know people move through grief - but the number of times I've said -
I wish dad could have been here.
My gramfeathers woud have loved Luhrman's Gatsby.
I wish Slacker could have been at this girls weekend.
What would Wendell be today(cousin who was murdered heading to American for Law)? He'd be like Corey Booker I bet.
My oldest friend I've known for 39 years. I have so many friends and a good family. Whatever the reality of death is - I want to go to it quickly and not be conscious of those thoughts and words.
And well - I have a neat picture of my dad's hand on my mom's shoulder at his funeral/grave side. No one was standing behind her. Just his hand. I'm not afraid of that.

(7,475 posts)When my husband died, it was a devastating blow to the whole family.
I am still not over that sudden and heartbreaking event.
I worry now about the work and time that my children will have to go through to clear up my estate and put thoughts of me at rest.
The whole process is expensive and time consuming.
Wish I could pick a day, have a clear and simple transfer of whatever assets I have and be done with it.
I don't believe in the 'hereafter', just stick me in the toaster, plant me and put up a cute tree at Christmas! The tree is already in the attic for my late husband. One of my kids better bring it to the cemetery or I will come back and haunt them!
As far as I'm concerned, it is just a big sleep. Been here, done that, gone now!

(6,096 posts)Make sure you sign a DNR, I have one at every hospital 70 miles around KC.
I also plan to move to Manila to be with my 2 sons...and their wives are VERY into taking care
of the elderly. That is where I feel the safest. Going there on my 6th trip and talking to banks
about how to transfer everything.
Older people are SO RESPECTED THERE!!!!!
I also think we either have alot of people KIDDING THEMSELVES RE: THIS Poll or we have alot
of evangelists among us. PRAISE THE LORD.....not......

(60,010 posts)Not to mention that fear is illogical.
As to how of the leaving, I hope my steadfast resolve to do it on my terms if necessary, will be an option.
Bear in mind that this is a lot easier to say, and mean, after age 50 than before it.

(34 posts)Some days, like today, I actually look forward to it.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

(23,156 posts)the people who fight the hardest against death, such as insisting everything possible be done for someone which usually only prolongs the dying, those people often claim to be religious, to believe in God and in a hereafter. I don't get why those people wouldn't willingly accept the end of life.
I do happen to believe in an afterlife, and while I'm not in any rush to get there, I expect it to be a better place.

For a lot of people, faith is just the fear of death; take away the fear, its easy to lose faith.
