New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will this month hold a pair of invitation-only discussions centered on his proposal to remove four Confederate monuments from city property ...
"Even if you think you don't have an opinion on this issue or that there are more important issues to consider, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to become better informed about the issue and the ways in which the monuments have impacted people from all walks of life in our city," Landrieu said in closing the letter.
There will be at least two public hearings on the proposed removals, one held by the Human Relations Commission and the other by the City Council, which has the ultimate authority over the matter.
Landrieu has called for the removal of statues of Robert E. Lee, PGT Beauregard and Jefferson Davis and the Battle of Liberty Place monument.
