Sanders has a lot of support among voters who self-identify as "very conservative". Those are the people who Ted wants to attract. So naturally, he is not going to say anything negative about the man who is, for whatever reason, scoring points with that particular group.

Many conservatives share a similar discontent with the concentration of wealth and power that has been acquired by the elite. If Sanders can help them wake up and smell the coffee, then so much the better.
