Advocates call on McCrory to end Confederate license plates (NC)

RALEIGH, N.C. — Advocacy groups plan to deliver a petition to Gov. Pat McCrory Thursday morning calling on him to use his executive authority to halt the sale of North Carolina license plates bearing the Confederate flag.
Sponsors of the movement say the petition with more than 13,000 signatures will be delivered at 10 a.m. to the governor's office in the old Capitol building,
McCrory said he wants to stop issuing the plates, which have been given to more than 2,000 Sons of Confederate Veterans. But he says he thinks the law requires him to wait for General Assembly approval. At the same time, legislative leaders say it is the governor's decision ...
