20 to 40 million dollars to be spent to defeat iran deal

As the Senate opens a two-month congressional review of the nuclear agreement with Iran on Thursday, opponents of the deal are spending tens of millions of dollars to rally the American public and U.S. lawmakers against it.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran, United Against a Nuclear Iran and the Republican Jewish Coalition are among groups that will spend between $20 million and $40 million to blast the deal with TV commercials that began airing last Friday, social media ads and new websites that include alleged flaws in the agreement and contact information for members of Congress.

The opponents' effort dwarfs that of supporters. The liberal Jewish group J Street has raised $2 million to promote the deal, said spokesman Alan Elsner. Other liberal groups, such as MoveOn.org, are also mobilizing supporters in favor of the deal, though it's unclear how much money they've raised. And President Obama is using the White House bully pulpit to make his pitch to the American people in support of the accord, which limits Iran's nuclear program for 15 years in return for lifting economic sanctions.

Obama is sending three members of his Cabinet — Secretary of State John Kerry, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew — to defend the deal at Thursday's hearing. Republicans, who hold a majority in the Senate, have been vocal critics of the accord, saying it doesn't provide ironclad guarantees that Iran won't build a nuclear weapon secretly.

won't take much to convince the American people of their position against this deal. They have far more control of corporate media than any of those from the pro-peace deal side.

They also know if their narrative dominates the debate on Iran deal it will carry over to 2016 foreign policy debate giving them the upper hand there.

It is much harder to UNCONVINCE the American people once the media narrative sets in.

Their narrative ruled the debate for 2 years. They are STILL milking it. And the kind of money they are willing to put into this is obscene……and they don't care how much it will take to win this battle.

Our side is mostly picking fights over the primaries.

3. GOOD LUCK getting more DUers to pay attention to a nuclear deal made in place of invading Iran

Kerry was on FIVE Sunday shows to discuss and defend the deal and not one thread popped up on DU to acknowledge it, let alone recap and discuss what was said.

I was away for the weekend and when I returned to my computer I eagerly went through all the threads seeking recaps of the shows…….NADA.

I did see a thread where Kerry commented on Trump-McCain, though.

Give peace a chance - oh well, I guess most of DU thinks it's just a nice song.

The RWers are all over this Iran nuclear deal with HUGE $$$$ being used to sway the electorate, and if DU and other Dem sites don't kick into gear and FIGHT the BombIran crowd, all the navel-gazing being done right now over the primaries will have been a huge waste of time, because if the RW dominates the narrative on Iran deal, then they will own the debate on foreign policy leading into 2016.

There….that is ME being pissed off at a great number of DUers. I know they can take it and do the right thing.

Please see this thread if you want to fight FOR this Iran nuclear deal:

Especially if a GOP senator is up for re-election in 2016.
