The internet equivalent of Venereal Disease

You know, those people that visit, and you spend 4 hours ridding your PC, no matter how strong your virus protection might be.

I swear to everything holy that I will not strangle my brother-in-law. He is a walking infection to every PC he touches. I have not figured out HOW he can do it (didn't happen on mine ... surprise, he can't lay a finger on it) but he somehow fucks up my mother's computer every time he comes down.

Please empty the recycling bin if you are deleting stuff so I don't have to see people blowing some guy. Not anything I am interested in, and I am fairly confident that my 79 year old mother isn't interested either (and there is a direct correlation - her computer is fine before they arrive).

I've begged and pleaded do not let him use your computer.

And here I am again.

This is the SIXTH time I've had to rid my mother's computer of the internet equivalent of venereal disease.

Maybe a parental control program that you can turn on when he visits and turn off when he leaves?

I agree with you. Experienced the same with my nephew who is also a grown man, not a child. Apparently he does need an instruction manual but I doubt it'll help.

There are three kinds of people...

Those who know how to prevent and clean it when needed.
Those who know but won't.
And those who are oblivious to it all.

Meanwhile, the criminals that use software to scam or steal are free to roam.

Her homepage had been converted to some crazy site.

Naturally, I had to get over there immediately, because I care about my parents.

I said, "Oh shit", my brother in law strikes again.

I've noticed in traffic cars with the fish on the back often do strange things. In business, more that once, I've been screwed by holy rollers. I was renting out an apartment once. The guy that wanted had a horrible credit report, had claimed bankruptcy, etc., a bunch of things. But seemed to think I had to rent him the apartment because, well, he was a christian. What a total WTF.

I'd call and leave a message.

"Hey, bob I just finished spending X hours cleaning up mom's computer of viruses and malware. This is the X number of times I've had to do this after you've visited. So, I'm going to to politely ask that during your next visit if you cannot refrain from looking at sketch porn sites, and yes since you always fail to clean out the recycle can I do know where it's coming from, please bring your own laptop for Internet access - I will be more than happy to set up a special wifi account just for you. Thank you".

Maybe his wife hearing that will help. And then if you know they're coming to visit, give a call and say "hey I heard you were visiting in a couple of weeks. I have the wifi set up and will leave the password with mom". Then physically remove the Internet connection from your mom's computer. Like just remove the cable.

that I don't get viruses on my computer, isn't it?

Neither does my mother's - except every single fucking time he visits.

The shit I was greeted with when I opened the recycling bin could sour milk.

But they are far holier than I am. They are the most wonderful people in the world and I'm just the gay person that you "pity".

Condescending does not do justice to the arrogance my sister displays. She wants people to envy her, but damn, her mindset.

of his browsing history (doubt he's smart enough to delete any cookies or history). Ask her if she thinks your mother was doing that while they were visiting. The history will be dated.

You could try teaching your Mom Linux, that will stop most of them.

It's either that or persuade her to lock the computer up when they visit or buy her commercial grade antivirus software or make a credible threat of breaking BIL's fingers if you find one more porn image, let alone virus, on your elderly mother's computer.

Asshole needs to buy himself a cheap laptop for his porn surfing.

I can't be everywhere at once, but damn.

Why do I need to be everywhere at once for a person to understand do NOT look or download from porn sites on my mother's computer!

Disrespectful, disregarding her hospitality, and just plain dishonest.

We did this at my Mom's house. Between the grand kiddies and and her out of state brother come to visit it's just better for them not to use her main computer.

My Mom is about the same age as your Mom. I'm just grateful she's willing to use the computer as she's in another state. Well worth my money to buy the netbook so I'm not fixing hers every couple of months.
