Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid anyone else notice how the piece of shit Texas DPS trooper who assualted Sandra Bland led her
to an area outside the dashcam's field of view?
Can't let anyone see the racist cop's discipline being applied to correct the insubordinate black woman's behavior.
Also, what's the best way to avoid having Ms. Bland file a lawsuit against DPS and the trooper? Silence her....permanently.
Edited to add: I was looking at the video...in it there is at one point a white pickup truck that makes an illegal u-turn past the traffic stop scene and comes back and passes the scene. I wonder if that person made a video. Could offer a new perspective on the incident.

This country needs help badly.

(14,779 posts)Sorry, the best solution is a camera with a large SD card that takes decent picture for eights hours at a time. Thus it is always on, you do not have to turn in on, and will record what is being done.

Forget self-driving cars; how about self-DEFENSIVE ( video recording ) cars? Way more important than all the clever gizmos and pretty lights on the dashboard that are available now.

Schools have a limited effect on children...the larger effect is the parenting...and government authority has an effect on parents.

(15,882 posts)Progressives do which society seems to have forgotten.
The parents are part of it, the schools are part of it, biology is part of it.
Schooling has many effects on children and there are whole schools of thought on paper with research that shows it. On this planet, anyway, most people know that. Of course, there are the hundreds we drag off to jail from school now - I suspect that has an even more tragic effect.
The schooling today teaches them, defiantly, that individuality is the best way to be - Donald Trump is held out as the pinnacle of success. Until we teach again that community is everything, we will continue to burn ourselves up.
We can't just leave it up to HR to hire better people - there is only one society to choose from. The difference is in how your people are raised at home, educated and trained, and then respected.
Tough to find better ones in a society where we we are subsidizing bank$ter/donors and keeping their wealth intact by letting people go hungry.

(18,998 posts)It is very important.
But education comes less from schools and teachers now than ever before in history and more from TV and movies...if you think about it a child will spend more time with the TV than with a teacher.
And so you must look at what the TV teaches. And what it teaches is exactly what you described...that Trump should be your goal in life and that murder is the solution to bad situations...as well as many other things.
I rode with a neighbor to pick up his grand kids from school a while back...and it looked more like a prison to me...he had to go to the gate to pick them up because they were not allowed to leave without an adult...I was shocked and dismayed at that. That is no way to raise kids. And think of what that teaches them.
It's good that I am not young enough to have children, because I would abandon the city for their sake.

(15,882 posts)wanting to learn. Out the other with a grade, like a chicken or side of beef, that tells them which direction we want them to go. And for too many that spark of inquisitiveness has been extinguished, forever.
Had schooling, as opposed to learning or education or training not intervened, we might all have been richer.
That's, partly, how we get Scott Walker. And the people who voted for him. 3 times. And people in Boston schools who dipped the wooden switches they used on black kids in vinegar "because their skins are tougher, you know".
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is how we get bullies who later become bullies with badges.
It's my basic problem with people who think we are gonna breed ourselves out of our problems. Broken adults use schooling, as well as other methods, to break their kids in the same way. 50 years down the road you have the same broken adults hoping for change, hoping they don't have to be put out too much.
Tv, movies, school - lots of different ways to school/educated them, eh?
And the prison you described...I understand, everyone is scared, but that really doesn't seem to bode well for the future. Then again, if we burn up the planet, maybe a few will survive in pods - and this would be great training for that.
zeemike
(18,998 posts)But you nailed the education system we have now...come in inquisitive and out with a grade like a side of beef.
I like what Mark Twain said..."I never let schooling interfere with my education" To bad so many do.
But if we destroy ourselves it will not be total...there will be pockets of primitive people we failed to eliminate and the meek will inherit the earth.

This I find today reading at https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2015/07/22/did-sandra-bland-have-a-right-to-record-her-police-confrontation-maybe-not/
"Get off the phone!" the officer, Brian Encinia, told Bland after she got out of the car.
"I'm not on the phone. I have a right to record, this is my property," Bland responded.
"Put your phone down, right now!" Encinia ordered.

(53,661 posts)Someone posted a youtube video thinking it meant she killed herself. That does not add up with the sounds on the arrest video. Nor this comport with the description of her situation as posted by niyad. She was an active, involved young lady who would have been an asset to any community she chose to live. She had a future ahead of her. She was well aware of her limitations in every way. I am from Texas and know of other 'suicides' in jail that are very suspicious.

(57,936 posts)Sandra Bland thanks someone for making a video. Can't wait to see that video.
The officer was very angry about the making of the video.
This scene is a cameo of what is wrong with our police state.
The officer loses his temper at the slightest expression of truth from his victim.
It's like he thinks he is the king's archer back in the Middle Ages. The arrogance is on the part of the officer, not on the part of Sandra Bland who is rightfully irritated at being stopped when she was trying to get out of the officer's way.
In cities, when there is a siren telling you an official ambulance or police or fire vehicle is headed your way, you are supposed to pull over immediately. You probably are supposed to signal that you are pulling away from the center of the street, but I can't imagine anyone being stopped because they did not signal that they were pulling over to make way for a police vehicle right behind them.
The entire stop was very strange.
Was he following her? Is that why she pulled over? What really happened before the stop?
