http://www.wjla.com/articles/2015/07/maryland-lawmaker-charged-with-indecent-exposure--115589.htmlROCKVILLE, Md. (WJLA) - A Maryland lawmaker is accused of flashing her bare breasts during a clash with her ex-husband.

Montgomery County Police have charged Del. Ariana Kelly (D-Montgomery) with indecent exposure and trespassing, both misdemeanors.
Investigators say on June 27, Kelly drove to her ex-husband's home along the 5300 block of Alta Vista Road in Bethesda in order to drop-off her son and daughter, ages eleven and nine. However, as the trio approached the front door, Kelly noticed her ex-husband's new fiancé was inside the two story red brick house
Enraged, Kelly began to repeatedly ring the doorbell and bang on the homes wooden front door. Moments later, the 38-year-old politician allegedly lifted-up her shirt and flashed her bare breasts. Appalled, Barak Sanford, a prominent investment banker, reportedly used a cell phone to record his ex-wife grab hold of her breasts and shake them up-and-down while standing on the front stoop.
"All-in-all, this is one of the strangest local events I've ever heard of, and it couldn't be more local, I'm only like 50-to-60 yards away," neighbor Geoffrey Marks remarked.
Sanford called 911 and asked that police be dispatched to his home. A responding officer politely asked Kelly to leave three separate times, at which point the elected official is said to have extended both of her wrists and state, "arrest me then." The officer complied with her wishes.
Simmons also made clear that he and his client aggressively dispute the charges. One legal question that could likely be addressed in court: Does exposing one's breasts to one's ex-husband in a semi-private place truly constitute indecent exposure...?
And regardless of what someone thinks of the incident, [Sanford] called police on the mother of his own children, Simmons asserted.

(43,049 posts)the deal was that the kids don't meet his girlfriend, and nobody seems to have bothered to open the door anyway when she showed up with the kids for visitation.

(62,444 posts)And who is claiming that?
Aside from which, they've been divorced since November. She is his fiancée. He is going to get married and the "deal" was that the kids would never meet his wife? I doubt that.

(62,444 posts)Her lawyer is claiming that he had "previously agreed" they wouldn't meet her.
First, it is entirely possible that he had on a prior occasion relented to a demand that she be in charge of what goes on in his household, simply to avoid this sort of drama.
Second, there is no way that anything like that would find its way into the actual divorce and custody agreement or judgment.
But, most importantly, it has absolutely no bearing on her behavior in this episode, which calls into question her judgment and fitness as a parent.

(43,049 posts)so far; and no video has popped up, although the ex claims to have taken some.
So, we really don't know what she did, or didn't do.
All we do know is that she showed up for visitation and for some reason he didn't answer the door to take the kids.

(62,444 posts)Given the headline "Video Said To..." and the fact that she was charged, I'm inclined to believe the prosecutors office had seen the video prior to charging her with that, instead of merely taking the ex-husband's say-so.

(43,049 posts)to prosecute a local politician for lifting her shirt on private property. Why is my mind wandering off to thoughts of her rich ex having political ties of his own...
BTW, if she was wearing a bra, would lifting her shirt be indecent exposure?
And the yelling and screaming-- if it did happen, how often is it in ex-marital disputes and how often is it prosecuted?

(43,049 posts)Although there were neighbors interviewed, none said they actually saw the hysteria. Maybe they did, it's just not in the aired interviews. And no interviews with the ex or the girlfriend.
Too many assumptions with too little facts-- all leading me to wonder if the wealthy investment banker has some other reason for embarrassing his ex wife who just happens to be a local politician aiming for higher office.

(62,444 posts)She is also charged with trespassing on the basis of refusing to leave the property.
"A responding officer politely asked Kelly to leave three separate times..." How did he magically make her not leave?
According to the charging document, Sanford played a cellphone video for police that showed Kelly ringing the doorbell numerous times, exposing her breasts in the direction of Sanfords cellphone camera and then with one breast in each hand [shaking] them up and down.
Okay, so a police officer dispatched to the scene was instructed en route by political higher ups of the identity and ambitions of this person, in order to make up a story about the video, perhaps by County Executive Isiah "Ike" Leggett (also D) himself.
Clearly the video should be posted to the internet by Montgomery County.

(63,261 posts)Since she's been charged, it seems likely that the prosecutors have found the case against her to be sufficient to proceed.
If the story were reversed, with an angry male politician freaking out and flashing his junk on his ex-wife's porch, no one would question it. Certainly no one would assume that his ex had set him up to embarrass him.
Since she has been charged after inviting the cop to arrest her, what exactly makes you wonder if the man is at fault?
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)I simply asked a question.
And another question is-- why is everyone assuming the "official" story is correct?
Just for shits and giggles, imagine what the response around here would be if she was black. Would everyone so happily assume she was in the wrong when confronting an investment banker?

(63,261 posts)This is what you decided to wonder:
In your imaginary version of the tale, is the "investment banker" still the woman's ex-husband? You didn't specify, and in the absence of that detail we have to wonder why she's dropping her kids off at a random investment banker's house.

(26,582 posts)Why would someone bare their breasts in this type of situation. Regardless, I do agree with the trespassing violation since she was asked multiple times to leave.
Also, if you cannot have a civil relationship with an ex, drop the kids off and just watch to make sure they go into the house.

(62,444 posts)"drop the kids off and just watch to make sure they go into the house" is easier said than done for some people. I mean, that HUSSY is in there! God only knows what she will do to the children! ...that sort of thing.

(26,582 posts)A friend is divorced from her son's father. He's an asshole and she doesn't want to see him, so she just does the drop & watch.
And the other thing that doesn't make sense. So supposedly the father wasn't supposed to have the fiancé around the kids. If they get married, does his ex wife expect their stepmom to never ever see them or know them? That's just silly.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)My totally wild-assed-guess is that the fiancé had something to do with the divorce, and is thus the epicenter of all evil in the Universe as far as mom is concerned. In all likelihood, the kids don't give a shit, and unless she's a sex offender, family court doesn't give a shit either.
People have strong protective impulses toward their children, which is at is should be. Where it goes off the rails is when, in these situations, the parent has to drop the kids off to be with someone who the parent absolutely hates. Their personal sense of hatred toward this person crosses with that protective impulse, and drama ensues, regardless of whether the object of that hate is a perfectly fine person. The kids get put in the middle of these things, and they get the message that having or expressing any sort of positive reaction to the other parent's new partner will be taken as some kind of "betrayal" of their mother.... it's a rich emotional stew.
