There are nearly two million more children living in poverty in the U.S. today than during the 2008 recession, shocking new figures reveal.
Nearly a quarter of youngsters (22 per cent, or around 18.7million children) - were classed as living below the poverty line in 2013.
This has risen from 18 per cent in 2008 (16million youngsters), according to the Casey Foundation's 2015 Kids Count Data Book.
The report also highlighted disparities between white children and those from other racial groups.
It found that black, Hispanic and American Indian children are more than twice as likely to live in poverty than white children.

(111,417 posts)There are now whole shopping centers and strip malls that have closed down completely. Only the hospitals, put here 70+ years ago when this was the main part of town, are doing well and employing people.
It's no mystery to me why things continue to get worse at the bottom and why they will continue to do so without a sea change in the halls of power.
The Reagan revolution has run its course, we're now in the end game.

(8,978 posts)Most of these have GOP legislatures. They would abolish all inheritance taxes at the drop of a hat, and reduce taxes for the top brackets, but accepting Medicaid funding to provide increased lower-income access to health insurance coverage? What the heck, just say no and blame Obama!

(55,745 posts)New Democrats like to help Banksters! It's where the money is. And they serve people who don't like the old economy where profits were generated by making stuff, including jobs. Faster now to just defraud everybody, like Greece.
