MSNBC Rumor Alert: Olbermann Coming Back? Several Shows Getting Slashed?

According to multiple sources within the network, the biggest rumor to emerge is that MSNBC has engaged in talks with soon-to-be-departed ESPN2 host Keith Olbermann about returning to the cable network’s primetime lineup. Olbermann previously hosted Countdown from 2003 until 2011, and was an immensely controversial figure for the network, both internally and externally (2003 was a return to the network for Olbermann after a previously contentious run in the ’90s as well). For myriad reasons, it would be a stunning turn of events if Olbermann came back, but one could certainly argue that right now they need each other more than ever.

Who would’ve thought: MSNBC attempts to solve ratings woes by adding Brian Williams and Keith Olbermann, the men who used to host back-to-back programs on the network, circa 1997? Perhaps this recent tweet from Olbermann was more prescient than first thought.

Keith's was the only show i could watch from start to finish....Can only watch the others in bits and pieces...

So Keith probably isn't the nicest guy around, who cares, "Countdown" was the best political show on cable...

....and there's still Bill-O.

Not to mention all the new right wing crazies in Congress.

He may have to do two "Worst Person in the World" segments a night for a while.

Did they really say that? The only things I've ever seen Fox cover live in their newsroom is their newsbabes' legs.

just like it was, with sound effects and worst person in the world! He can skip his special statements and reading segment. But Countdown in it's hay day was so much fun to watch!

To move away from their left-wing "image"?

Image is all they are worried about? Amongst WHO? And we sure know they ain't all that left wing!

Get rid of that ass Joe...and the worthless Andrea Mitchell.

Leave Ed alone!

If they bring back KO, wouldn't they be cementing to their left-wing image?

Of course, any liberal or progressive could tell you that most of the daytime shows still tilt right, but they do have, what, 4 to 5 hours of left-wing hosts at night?

I do record and watch two shows The Ed Show and The Rachel Maddow show. The rest are simply repeats of news (IMHO). The Ed show tries to cover topics in depth such as the TPP and the oil pipe line controversies. I don't like Ed's replacements when he's on vacation, specifically Dyson who appears too offensive to white people and I refuse to watch The Ed Show when he's the host. I also tend to not watch The Rachel Maddow Show when a stand in host is there. They try to simulate the hosts views but tend to get away from the passion I see in say Rachel Maddow, whom I really like and admire. I hope MSNBC doesn't cancel her program. The rest, uh, I can live without seeing.

While you are at it MSNBC, throw a big wad at Cenk and bring the Young Turks back.
