General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy son just saw 2 orange balls of light go through over the
Two Rivers area of Wisconsin, one went through and a few minutes later another one went through heading out over Lake Michigan. Right over the town at a high rate of speed and not as high as an airplane. Anyone have any ideas about them? He reported the first one and while he was trying to figure out what it was, the second identical one went through.

(7,911 posts)Of course, it would be reckless and irresponsible of me to call them alien spacecraft. But it would be just as reckless and irresponsible for me to call them meteors without having actually seen them for myself.
To posit an explanation for something about which I have no hard data is something not even remotely resembling science.

(11,843 posts)Sounds like these were bigger than the typical "grain of sand" that we get from a meteor shower. How could there be an expected timing for a couple of low angle atmospheric burnups?
Vinca
(50,322 posts)There are meteor showers, of course, but the ones that really get your attention are closer to earth and look like an orange being chased by firecrackers. The last one I saw was so impressive I at first thought it was a jet crashing.

(55,745 posts)Please ask your son to further detail what he saw. For example:
Did the second light follow the same path through the air as the first?
How large did the lights appear? Where they identical in size?
If they were giving off light, did they cast a shadow?
Did they make a noise as they passed by?
What was the weather like at the time?
What time of day did this occur?
What did your son think as he watched the first ball of light?
What did he think when he saw the second light?
It sounds like a fascinating thing to have experienced, even if it was a natural phenomena, a manmade thing, something unusual, or a new phenomenon we don't know about.

(30,151 posts)You forgot to ask if a odd strong wind was felt just moments before the lights
Octafish
(55,745 posts)For instance: Was the orange light a uniform orange?
Was there a section or part that was brighter?
Were the edges sharp or fuzzy?
How big would the sphere appear next to the moon?
What did you think upon seeing the first object?
What did you think upon seeing the second object?
Did you experience fear?
What are your thoughts now about the experience?
Did you think any unusual thoughts afterward?
------------------------------------------------------
Almost forget two more -- for you, snooper 2: Do you know what Shraby's son saw? Are you really as juvenile as you appear from your writings?
Ino
(3,366 posts)maybe 3 or 4 years ago, in July. An orange ball of light, traveling in a straight horizontal line, silent, unblinking, maybe as high as a helicopter (but NOT a helicopter), a bit faster than a helicopter would go. A few minutes later, another ball on the same path. My sister saw it too. This was in St. Louis.

The second light followed the same path as the first. He was trying to figure out what it could be when the second came through.
They looked about the same size I guess cause he didn't say anything about one being smaller.
No shadow.
Didn't mention any noise.
The weather was clear.
I see by my op that I posted it at 11:41, so he saw it earlier than that, because he talked about it for a while before I posted it.
Totally mystified with the first light and couldn't believe there would be a second. Didn't mention any "tail". I'll ask him about it today when he gets up. He'll probably sleep in, he was going to call the newspaper when I went back to bed. The Coast Guard saw it too..we have a station here, and they couldn't figure out what it was.
Octafish
(55,745 posts)I don't know what it was -- but as Ino wrote above -- others have reported very similar experiences. The 1-2 thing is particularly intriguing.
Please encourage your son to write down his memories and impressions. As time goes on, they likely will change. Writing them down allows him to compare what he thought today with new memories about the event.

(32,886 posts)I'm wondering if your son saw the tail exhaust of an F-35 or some other single engine fighter. Painted black, the plane itself might not be visible at night, but the flame coming out of the exhaust might have been

(21,946 posts)airplane. We see lights from those going from Green Bay south and from Milwaukee north.
This was much lower and much slower. Planes like the F-35 probably wouldn't be flying in this area anyway, and fly faster.
A plane would have been recognized by the Coast Guard stations here, and they couldn't figure out what it was.
stevenleser
(32,886 posts)I'm just throwing that out there as a possibility. I seem to remember having seen reports of glowing ball UFO reports having been traced to jet fighter exhaust before.

thing sometimes. Atmospheric conditions can change a lot of a sounds characteristics. Do we know approximately how far your son was from the object?

(21,946 posts)The coast guard guys weren't just watching the radar. They have to keep track of any flares from people in trouble out there on the lake, and they didn't know what the lights were..they eyeballed them.

(21,946 posts)boats with people fishing at this time of year. Particularly with a salmon derby going on.
Therefore the coast guard is extra alert because some of those boats get in trouble. Some have communications on them, some don't. Most have flares of some sort to call for help if needed. Motors will quit, steering goes out, one only knows until it happens to them. Then the coast guard will tow them in so they need eyes on the lake as well as on the radar, even at night.
A friend of ours floated around all night one time cause he had no flares, no communication and no power.
