He is 62. Has never had a job with a pension. He had the chance about 15 years ago and turned it down. He told the employer he can't work the graveyard shift in the convenience store any more because they only have 1 employee on duty for those hours. He can't afford to take time off and is going back to work Monday afternoon. I'm afraid the R plan of work till you drop is what he is going to do.

(111,407 posts)I'm guessing they were small strokes on the right side. Those can affect judgment pretty severely and that's most likely what is going on. I hope you're managing to get daily aspirins into him, they can limit the extent of the major stroke he's working into although they won't prevent it.
If he's got any weakness on his left side, the strokes are on the right side of his brain. The opposite is also true.
I don't know what else to tell you. Your only alternative is to knock him over the head and drag him into the ER and the cops frown on that sort of thing.

(17,796 posts)then drag him in. I am not joking. He's already been damaged, the hope is to limit it. He may think that he can't afford time off, but if he doesn't he may be off work permanently. Please let us know how it goes.

(51,308 posts)I'm thinking that could cause another stroke right there.
I sure wouldn't take kindly to it.
But surely you were NOT serious?

(20,228 posts)I realize it's not ideal because the benefit is reduced, but it might be worth looking into. If and when he feels better, he could work part time or even full time to supplement it. You can find out here:

I will say though, it's hard to get men to stop working. My dad was still working at 70 after some moderate strokes. Then he had the big one and eventually died.
