Planned Parenthood exec, fetal body parts subject of controversial video
(CNN)An anti-abortion group has released an online video that it says documents how Planned Parenthood is selling fetal organs for a profit, a felony, while violating medical ethics by altering normal abortion procedures so as to preserve the organs.
Planned Parenthood has countered that it donates the tissue for scientific research and receives only reimbursement for its expenses, which is legal. The group also says it helps people donate tissue "with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards," according to a statement from spokesman Eric Ferrero.
Later, Ferrero issued another statement saying, "These outrageous claims are flat-out untrue, but that doesn't matter to politicians with a longstanding political agenda to ban abortion and defund Planned Parenthood. Women and families who make the decision to donate fetal tissue for lifesaving scientific research should be honored, not attacked and demeaned."
The group leveling the accusation, the Irvine, California-based Center for Medical Progress, says it shot the video a year ago at a California restaurant. On it, two people purporting to be with a human biologics company speak with a Planned Parenthood doctor over what appears to be a lunch meeting. The Center for Medical Progress says the pair, who are off-camera and never seen, are paid actors.

Abortion Foes Seize on Video of Planned Parenthood Official
WASHINGTON—A political furor erupted Wednesday over the practice of medical researchers’ use of fetal tissue obtained after abortions, in the wake of a video depicting a top Planned Parenthood Federation of America official discussing the practice.
The video, released Tuesday by antiabortion activists, appears to show Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, Deborah Nucatola, talking about abortion providers’ ability to collect and preserve fetal tissue in the course of terminating pregnancies. Dr. Nucatola appears to say that abortion providers “absolutely want” to work with patients who wish to donate tissue, but don’t want to do so in a way perceived as profit-seeking. Speaking in response to a question from activists posing as medical-research representatives interested in procuring fetal tissue, she gives an approximate cost of $30 to $100 for each specimen, depending on facilities and “what’s involved.”
Abortion opponents said the video is proof that Planned Parenthood is trying to exploit pregnancy termination. An antiabortion group called Priests for Life circulated the video, saying it had been provided by an activist, David Daleiden, working with a group called the Center for Medical Progress.
Planned Parenthood officials said there was no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood and that Dr. Nucatola was discussing standard reimbursement fees for costs associated with tissue donation. Abortion providers said Wednesday they intended to continue the practice.
