CNN host corners Rick Santorum on LGBT tolerance: ‘Why aren’t you more like your pope?’

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum insisted on Tuesday that tolerance meant understanding that LGBT people were “sinners” who made “mistakes.”

During an interview on CNN, host Chris Cuomo pointed out that the Catholic candidate’s rhetoric seemed to be out of step with Pope Francis.

“Your pope says tolerance is the message of Catholicism,” Cuomo explained. “When asked about gay marriage and LGBT existence within humanity, he says, who am I to judge? That doesn’t work for you. You say you want an amendment that keeps marriage between a man and a woman.”

“Why aren’t you more like your pope?” the CNN host wondered.

“The pope doesn’t support a change the definition of marriage,” Santorum replied defensively. “I mean, he’s been perfectly clear about that.”

Got to agree with Rick, Francis is not at all tolerant and that 'who am I to judge' quote is misused Bluenorthwest Jul 2015 #1
I've certainly stopped speaking out in favor of Francis. He had me fooled. I admit it. Not anymore. stevenleser Jul 2015 #2

because he is speaking about those priests who are gay but remain sexless and also without any emotional relationship, also without any community feeling. In that same speech, Francis rails against 'the gay lobby' and flatly says 'it's bad'.
In no way did Francis suggest a support for marriage equality, and if his fans were honest about it they would be helping us deal with the threat he is organizing against us, in November the Vatican held a by invitation anti marriage equality conference in Rome, three days with Francis speaking, invited guests included Tony Perkins of FRC, Maggie Gallagher of NOM, Rick Warren, the heads of Southern Baptist Convention, heads of LDS and the oh so progressive Heritage Foundation. Tony Perkins called the atmosphere 'euphoric'.

In light of such actions as that conference, it is pretty fucked up to keep claiming Francis is super tolerant pro gay.

It was published, his whole diatribe against the 'gay lobby' which was a diatribe. The claim that he is speaking of LGBT couples or families or even sexually active LGBT people is a flat out lie and they keep repeating it no matter how many times they are told the facts. They do not care about the truth. They care about Francis.
