Speaking to demon obsessed Colorado state Representative Gordon Klingenschmitt at the Western Conservative Summit shortly after the Supreme Courts marriage ruling last month, 2016 GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was asked how Christians should react moving forward.
His response:
I think in all of our lives there comes moments where we have to decide do we obey God or do we obey a decision that we believe is unlawful. Martin Luther King perhaps taught us best in our own lifetime
.He was willing to suffer for his decisions. And I think thats what we have to accept is that we would be willing to follow our conscious. If we dont follow our conscience we dont have much of one.
You can expect to see more of Huckabees unconscionable policy positions on display at the first GOP debate on August 6.

(11,804 posts)Lost my credit card on Saturday; but fortunately someone turned it in, so I got it back. Still that was a stressful hour, while I retraced my steps.
Sorry - I haven't done too much suffering lately - that's the best I have, but if I suffer anything further, I'll let you know. I like to do what I can to brighten people's day.

(15,429 posts)Civil servants who refuse to carry out their duties will simply be fired.
What are they going to do, break into wedding ceremonies where people of the same sex are being married, then shoot the joint up?
I sincerely don't get what he's claiming they need to do?

(11,804 posts)In particular one suppose those clerks who will be fired? I guess also if you own a cake or a dress or a wedding planning business you shouldn't cater to gay marriages.
Then again perhaps he's imagining a set of circumstances in which religions are punished by the state for refusing to perform same sex marriages? That hasn't happened and there are no plans for that to ever happen, but maybe he's got a vivid imagination.
I don't know - the MLK comparisons are pretty ridiculous.

(82,849 posts)Because I want to see the appalling footage of Christians with the fire hoses turned on them, government officials standing in the doorways of buildings, beatings administered by the local constabulary, police dogs loosed on peaceful demonstrators, folks locked up en masse without charge or counsel, and the midnight bombings, and the abductions and murders, and the lynchings, and all the rest of what so many citizens endured simply to secure some basic civil rights that I'm sure Gov. Huckabee has taken for granted all his life.
Why does Gov. Huckabee think that marriage equality supporters are going to treat him and his ilk the way they treated us?

(12,164 posts)who is in a county clerk or judge who believes that it would be immoral for them to carry out their state mandated duty should do, resign. That would be suffering as there would be an immediate loss of income.
The same for those who caters to weddings, florists, bakers, food vendors and venue operators, if they cannot treat everyone with courtesy and serve them they should sell their business or if employed resign.
OOOO more suffering for their beliefs.

The Episcopal Church approves religious weddings for gay couples after controversial debate
The bishops of the Episcopal Church have authorized their clergy to perform same-sex weddings, but dont expect sweeping changes across the entire denomination anytime soon. Episcopalians voted Wednesday to allow religious weddings for gay couples, but not every priest will necessarily officiate at a same-sex wedding.
In resolutions adopted here at the denominations General Convention meeting in Salt Lake City this week, the bishops have endorsed new liturgies or services for same-sex couples wishing to marry in church. The bishops also approved changing the churchs canons, or rules, governing marriage, making them gender neutral by substituting the terms man and woman with couple. However, clergy were also given the right to refuse to perform a same-sex marriage, with the promise they would incur no penalty, while bishops were given the right to refuse to allow the services to take place in their diocese.
Check and mate. This proves that some Christians feel that marriage equality isn't a problem. To outlaw the wedding of persons of the same sex would now be prohibiting these people from freely practicing their religion. The Constitution protects against that. Sorry. This can't be undone no matter what the haters think. Game over.
