I've seen several posts that posit a civil war fomented by the capitalists/fascists if the Greek people vote in Syriza and it's platform. And I actually think that's probably a likely scenario.
Doesn't that PROVE that the people (democracy) are subsidary to money and wealth?

(45,274 posts)In the US, though, TPTB have such tight control over public opinion through media manipulation that they rarely have to show their teeth. Consider the last several election cycles--any candidates on the left get pruned early. Bradley against Gore, Dean & Kucinich both in 2004, everybody but Hillary & Barack in 2008--
As I said at the time, Barack Obama is the furthest-left candidate that we will be permitted to run.

(11,481 posts)What WOULD happen in the ole USA if a REAL socialist party (like Syriza) started gaining ground in polls? Would the Republicans AND the Democrats join forces to threaten (*excuse me* warn about) a coup d'etat and/or civil war if they were *gasp* actually elected? And of course, this actually calls into question bourgeoisie "democracy" itself.
I believe that for the answer to this thought experiment, we only need to look to Greece.
