Adams and Jefferson

My favorite story about our nations founders is this. Adams and Jefferson put aside their differences to found this country, became political rivals the second we achieved independence, and later became good friends after they both left office both died on the same 4th of July hours apart. Happy 4th to all.

Their correspondence in their later years was voluminous. In one letter Jefferson expressed to his friend Adams that one of his great regrets was not insisting that freedom from religion be included in the First Amendment. Adams, presumably with a rueful grin to himself, stated in response that he agreed with Jefferson completely about that question.
