For those unfamiliar with that term, it originated with Pope John Paul II back in 1995, and has been defined by those who hold to it that those who are pro-choice and pro-contraception are part of this culture of death that doesn't value life. Comparing it to genocide and Nazi medical experiments.
This is contrasted with the so called "culture of life" that he advanced, basically anti-choicers feeling good about restricting medical options for women.
Of course, the funny thing is this, my sister wouldn't have even been born if my parents were a part of this "culture of life". See, back when my mother was pregnant with me, it was a high risk pregnancy for two reasons, the first was because of a preexisting medical condition of hers, and the second because I was a big fetus. When I was born, I was 12 pounds even. This caused some damage to my mothers body, and the doctors told her that she couldn't risk another pregnancy for at least 6 years, to give her body time to recover.
I was an accident, but my parents damned near planned the day of conception for my sister, and this is thanks in part to them violating the teachings of the church my mother was raised in. Birth control allowed my sister to exist, never really though of it before, but its true. If my mother got pregnant at any time before my sister's conception, any number of things could have happened, most ending in further damage to her uterus and decreasing chances of bringing a pregnancy to term, and those were best case scenarios. Worse case would have been robbing me of a parent.
But, I don't think about that much, because it didn't happen, instead my sister is happily married, with a one year old son, and my mom is now a proud grandma. That's three generations that are alive and happy because of the so called "culture of death".
