<snip>
Law enforcement agencies are warning consumers not to buy a new cell phone case that resembles a gun.

The case has a handle attached that when placed in a pocket makes it appear that a weapon is tucked into the pants.

"My reaction would be you're asking for trouble with that," New Jersey resident Johnny Martin said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office posted on its Facebook page, "Please folks - this cell phone case is not a cool product or a good idea. A police officer's job is hard enough, without having to make a split second decision in the dark of night when someone decides without thinking to pull this out while stopped for a motor vehicle violation."

Whether the Ocean County prosecutor likes it or not the people have rights. Though it may be difficult to obtain it is still legal to concealed carry in New Jersey. What the prosecutor is effectively saying is the officers are being assumed to have the right to kill and ask questions later.

The police have the obligation to respect those rights as well as the obligation to be absolutely certain of when and why they are going to use deadly force. Considering the police are killing unarmed citizens the onus is on them to demonstrate they are worthy of the trust invested in them.

By the way, considering NJ allowed Ray Rice to skate on a DV charge by diverting him to a program meant for non-violent offenders while it was willing to destroy the life of Shaneen Allen until public outcry became too great I don't think NJ is in a position to lecture us about what is or is not a good idea.

Saw a headline for it, but not the actual case. Doesn't sound very efficient.

I bet a ton of those get sold. Especially now with all the attention and unfortunately it won't end well for some of the customers.

To your second question, someone who wants to look tough but is too chickenshit to buy a real gun.
