Republican establishment terrified of Donald Trump, worried Trump will hurt the GOP brand

GOP fears Trump hurting brand
July 01, 2015, 06:13 pm

It took two weeks for Donald Trump to confirm the fears of Republicans that his entrance into the Republican White House race could hurt the GOP brand.

The real estate mogul is rocking the polls, but he’s also been engulfed in an escalating feud with Hispanics over remarks from his campaign launch that said Mexico was sending criminals and rapists across the border.

<....>

The GOP can’t dump Trump. In fact, right now the billionaire businessman would earn a top spot on the debate stage given his poll numbers. And that’s a worry for party veterans.

“We're now trying to grow the numbers of votes in the Hispanic, African-American communities and work on growing the amount of female voters,” said GOP strategist Ron Bonjean, who suggested Trump is kneecapping those efforts.

“He's not hurting other candidates. He is risking the Republican brand,” added fellow Republican strategist David Payne.

<...>

Republicans hoping to send an inclusive message in next year’s general election after being throttled by President Obama in the race for black, Asian and Hispanic votes aren’t happy with the direction of the conversation.

“We don't want him standing on stage with other Republicans,” Bonjean said.

the base of the con party and the owners of the con party want different things.

The base hates Latinos and Blacks and Gays and doesnt want them in their party

The owners of the party, the founders of the teaparty, Koch bros and friends, also hate, wait...

I get confused.

Koch bros are actual racist puke fucks and own the teaparty, Bush and friends own the other side of the party

which side wins the nomination is what is important here

He can self-finance. That's the beauty of the thing. He can stay in right up until the convention if he wants.

deciding who I want to win the primaries between him, Carson, Paul, Santorum, Cruz, and Jindal. Either of them would make for great entertainment and an easier match-up for the Dem.

Is a bunch of bigoted, racist, mysogianistic, Neanderthals clinging to a 2000 year old religion, which they don't even understand. I don't see how Trump can hurt it any more than its already hurt itself.

Out Loud, In Public, where anyone can hear. So yeah I guess that tarnishes the "brand"--the reality they have tried to keep closeted.

Too bad, so sad.

Trump is like brick that hits a totaled car. The republicans destroyed their brand a couple of decades ago by pandering to the evangelical bible thumping crowd. What a gift to the corporate controllers of the party. They get the votes they need from the bible belt while pursuing laissez-faire economics diametrically opposed to their own supporters.

The GOP is ruining their brand, i.e., reputation, all by themselves. In other words, they only have themselves to blame.
