This is tragic.

(118,870 posts)and for the GOP for generations have nothing but their hatred left. So sad. May the congregants of these churches see it as the death throws of such a south. I hope they don't take it personally even though it was meant as such.

This is deeper, more psychological. It is fear and impotent rage at the 'other'.
I want to believe it is the death throws but I suspect it is just ramping up for a worst wave of more violence to come.
Federal intervention may again be required.

(9,314 posts)The officials should at least put security cameras in the vicinity of these churches.
I wish they could unearth at least two participants of this crime and charge them, put them on trial. The penalty should be so severe it would at least make some people rethink their participation in these crimes. Weak, I know, but that is all I can think of for now. There are no words....

Expose and prosecute these organizations and individuals to the fullest extent-send a message. There is no need to build consensus with the Republicans and far right on a strategy, show them who's boss.

(9,766 posts)Every afternoon/evening, with lots of severe lightning. And churches have this little thing on top of them called a steeple.
Can we all just take a fucking breath??
There are Federal investigators and the ATF onsite. The will be able to determine if the fire is a result of something like lightning versus an accelerant because of...science.
You know, the same science we ridicule climate change deniers for ignoring?

(9,766 posts)and I answered.
Further, unless you are proposing some grand conspiracy at the federal level, who Obama runs in case you've forgotten, then science will determine the cause of the fire. Which from everything I've heard and read to date was caused by lightning. If you have evidence otherwise, I'm all ears.
And yes, suspicion is anti-science when we don't accept the results thereof.
Deal with it.

Police and firefighters are disputing an anonymous report claiming that the most recent of seven fires at predominantly black churches in the south was caused by lightning.
A spate of fires has followed the racially motivated killing of nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina last month, provoking concerns that the incidents were related. Black churches have been targeted by racists since at least the early 19th century.
The Associated Press and the New York Times both cited an anonymous law enforcement official who said that a fire at Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Greeleyville was caused by lightning.
Bogus, bogus. We just dont know yet, Williamsburg fire chief Randy Swinton told the Post and Courier of the reports.
