I don't believe Romney ever commented on that.
For someone who wants to become president of this country and expects us to play fair shouldn't Romney have denounced that kind of underhanded cheap shot immediately?
What do you think about someone who wants to be president of the entire country but stays silent on that type of thing?

But seriously, I can't get at all worked up about someone NOT criticizing someone else for saying something stupid. There's just too much going on to be concerned about that.

(2,208 posts)Still, I can't get worked up because Romney didn't call out West.
Now, if West were to start making a habit of his little commie charade, I might feel differently.
But it appears to have been a one-off.
Besides, this style of politics is just silly beyond belief.
Republican A makes the dumbest of dumb comments.
Republican B, who is running for president or whatever, does not condemn Republican A for acting like an asshat.
Democrats go nuts over the dumbness and then criticize Republican B for not condemning Republican A's idiocy.
There just isn't enough time in a day to be concerned about all the instances of this silliness, and DU is becoming mired in it. I don't even know why I responded to this thread in the first place, it's just such a waste of time....

(2,208 posts)It's frikkin' Allen West!
The man is looney-tunes, whack-a-doodle, cuckoo for coco-puffs, bat-shit crazy, and should be treated as such. Expecting a presidential candidate to condemn his bat-shit crazy remarks is not only unrealistic, but it legitimatizes the man and the remarks. The best things to do is to laugh at him. They HATE that more than anything. Laugh and laugh and laugh our asses of when they this shit, and eventually they will stop saying this shit. Get all serious and "demand an apology" (a real pet peeve of mine) and the rest of it, and they double down. Haven't we learned this lesson yet?

(129,892 posts)When McLame criticized a zombie at one of his town hall meetings who called candidate Obama an Arab, McLame "lost the election", so they are probably in the mode of "fool me once".... except they probably use the Shrub version - "Fool me once, shame onuh, shame on you. If you fool me, you can't get fooled again."

(82,849 posts)I'd like to know if anyone in the popular media will ask Romney about it. West hasn't backed off his incendiary comments, as far as I know. Does Romney agree with West? It's a pretty simple question, easy to ask. The proper answer would marginalize West and his loony ideas, but for some reason, the popular media doesn't seem interested in stopping a little casual character assassination. I recall when this sort of garbage was allowed to flourish back in the late 1940s and early 1950s, it was airily dismissed by responsible voices in the media. Until the guns got turned on them, and then it was "How could this have happened?"
Yeah, Allen West is a kook. But kooks become demagogues, and demagogues become dangerous as their ideas are left to grow in the dark corners. So media bulldogs? How about it? McCarthy got started with a little-noticed bit of spuriousness in Wheeling, West Virginia, and before it was over, a lot of people had their lives ruined forever.

(67,190 posts)Give some examples of when a serving Republican congressman states as fact that 70 to 80 Democratic congresspeople who are currently serving with him are "Communists", if it is so common.
If it is such "run of the mill politics", you should be able to come up with several examples real quick.

(5,957 posts)They all do it. If you agree with what's said, it's the truth; if you don't it's an insult. I stopped reacting to that crap decades ago.

(67,190 posts)That is because our history has proven that suggesting people are Communists goes well beyond mudslinging, hyperbole and insults.
Doesn't it?

(5,957 posts)When it comes to what politicians say, I don't pay much attention. They'll say whatever they think will get them votes or take votes away from their opponent. When it comes to getting votes, there's no bottom to their barrel - they'll say anything.
My opinions about politicians are based on what they actually do.
