WH & Dems Back Banks over Protests: Newly Discovered DHS Files Show Feds Central to Occupy Crackdown

White House & Dems Back Banks over Protests: Newly Discovered Homeland Security Files Show Feds Central to Occupy Crackdown

A new trove of heavily redacted documents provided by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) on behalf of filmmaker Michael Moore and the National Lawyers Guild makes it increasingly evident that there was and is a nationally coordinated campaign to disrupt and crush the Occupy Movement.

The new documents, which PCJF National Director Mara Verheyden-Hilliard insists “are likely only a subset of responsive materials,” in the possession of federal law enforcement agencies, only “scratch the surface of a mass intelligence network including Fusion Centers, saturated with 'anti-terrorism' funding, that mobilizes thousands of local and federal officers and agents to investigate and monitor the social justice movement.”

Nonetheless, blacked-out and limited though they are, she says they offer clues to the extent of the government’s concern about and focus on the wave of occupations that spread across the country beginning with last September’s Occupy Wall Street action in New York City.

The latest documents reveal “intense involvement” by the DHS’s so-called National Operations Center (NOC). In its own literature, the DHS describes the NOC as “the primary national-level hub for domestic situational awareness, common operational picture, information fusion, information sharing, communications, and coordination pertaining to the prevention of terrorist attacks and domestic incident management.”

Since people are lazy everybody is going to read the scare articles and say Oh Noes the feds are watching our every move!

Read the emails,

Talking about who's going to be at dinner-
Coast Guard email about 4000 people possibly at a port in San Fran-
Action Taken- Tell CG employees at the Ronald V. Dellues Federal building in Oakland to telecommute if possible to avoid conflict with protesters ( Occupy saved some gas! )
WH says let local authorites do police work unless on federal grounds/federal jurisdiction
And Chicago PD wanted to talk to NYC, Oakland, Atlanta, DC, Denver, Boston, Portland and Seattle to see if they let folks set up camp, where, why and any charges they make.
Oh, and they let each other know when they are having press conferences LOL

The article could have included some quoted passages from the documents since it was based on them.

The emails are pretty much mundane talk of logistics. The "spying operation" was montoring occupy websites and traditional media

Subject: Re: Portland
No arrest made. 3 tent sites up, plus 3 protesters barely on our property chained to a se
gallon drum. They are not causing any problems so I told the guys to just monitor them and
let them freeze.

Protestors to Picket Port Of Oakland ~ Oakland, CA
Sir
Per our phone conversation, the following was received from the Fusion Rep in Northern,. CA,
reference Oakland Port protests.
Coast Guard personnel at the Oellums federal building have already cleared out. Broadway in downtown Oakland was without traff1c1 and some police presence, four choppers overhead. Police have escorted protesters to the port of Oakland, including motorbike escort for 199-200 cyclists who passed in front of me at an intersection I just drove through in Oakland an hour ago.

Per current press accounts on Sfgate.com, dozens of trucks sat idling at the port
while the protesters chanted ..Empties go, cargo no." NCRIC's maritime representative advised
that longshoremen had agreed not to cross protest lines. The timing of the protest to close
the port was reportedly negotiated to limit impact on port operations.

Other than a few smashed windows at a number of banks1 today's events have remained First Amendment protected protest activities. NCRIC is not monitoring protected activity, but is in touch with the Oakland EOC in the event circumstances change. Alameda County has made a mutual aid request for 750 allied agency law enforcement officers

Hm1ston Field Office·

The OWS protest will begin at the Turning Basin Terminal (City Docks) in Houston, Texas.

The Port of Houston Authority (POHA) is coordinating with the Houston Police Department to allow the protesters to outside terminal grounds.

ACBP is located near the protest location.

POHA has requested that CBP divert traffic to an alternate gate in the event the exit is shut down or adversely impacted.

The Houston Field Office~is currently being refined in the event Operators are needed to support the security of C~

Houston Seaport employees have been mustered to direct any media inquiries to the Houston Field Office, Public Affairs Office
