I just received an e-mail from "Speaker" Boner's office. They even had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to get updates from his office. I answered the email this way. I'm sure it will be tossed, but at least I felt good writing to them. Here is my message:
Are you kidding me??? I certainly didn't sign up for your emails and I don't know where you found my name and e-mail address to send me any messages from "the speaker." At one time I was a republican, but by reagan's second term, I knew I had to change party affiliation and went Independent. Then after the disastrous years of the bush administration, I knew I had to become a Democrat. I worked on the Obama campaign in 2008 and look forward to working to re-elect President Obama again this time. The republican party has certainly morphed into a party of hate, un compromise, and a party that cares only for the wealthy and not the real American people

(3,596 posts)I have been a little more direct and less politically correct.
I live in Georgia and earlier this year I got a call from the Gingrich campaign touting how he would trounce Obama and restore America, etc. I stayed on the line for the duration of the 90 second "infomercial" and waited for the proverbial, "what is your credit card number please?" routine.
When the gentleman came online I asked
(1) Where did you get my phone number? I have never contributed to a Republican or conservative cause, in fact the opposite.
Answer - We obtain our calling list from several sources including conservative causes, etc.
(2) Why would I support Gingrich who stands against everything I believe in?
Answer - well...er...umm...Gingrich wants to make America strong again....
(3) And how would he make America strong again?
Answer - well...er....umm...He would restore dignity to the Presidency
(4) And why is there a need to restore dignity to the Presidency?
Answer - well..er..umm Obama has bowed to foreign governments.....
(5) OK, well thank you for wasting my time. Please be aware that the only Republican I consider a "good Republican" is a dead one. The sooner we are rid of the vermin the better...Thank you.
Answer - thank you.
Trust me I do not advocate violence against anyone but this young man was clueless. He had no idea what Gingrich stood for. His north-Atlanta parents probably told him to go volunteer.

....once up a time there we're Republicans I could even respect like, Everett Dirksen, Bob Michel, Jacob Javits, Edward Brookes, Howard Baker....
....today, the very best politician the Republican Party has to offer, would be little more than a pimple on the ass of the honorable Senator Dirksen....

(32,078 posts)Most likely the Speaker's office got your email from a Congress member mailing list or some other political mailing list.

(28,822 posts)hopefully it will get them thinking. i send off emails to the republican senator in my state more than the democrat. because i get so pissed off. i'm still his constituent even if he doesn't want to recognize it. maybe if more people did that, it could get the republicans off their asses, stop their obstructionism and lying, and start governing. don't worry i'm not holding my breath. i like what you wrote very much.

(53,410 posts)I think you should consider this a frenzied cry for help from a dying party lead by an incompetent Speaker who wants to kiss your ass so you'll return to the party. They're in full panic mode

(2,190 posts)I recently received a snail mail solicitation from the South Dakota Republican party.
I succinctly wrote that I would not be contributing on their form, and mailed it back in their envelope letting them pay the postage.
I have never been a Republican, but back in the late 70s I used to be a Libertarian. Then I saw how the Republicans and Libertarians worked together for the election of Ronald Reagen in 1980--and then celebrated together after he won, and I decided not again, and I've been a Democrat ever since.
