(18,807 posts)I've been following the protests against the school she and some others have been organizing largely as a result of the whole Chuck Phelps thing. The defenders of that school are ... astonishing, to say the least.
People who think the school doesn't go far enough into crazyland are just scary.

(23,664 posts)Kaplan University, University of Phoenix, DeVry University. All "for profit" institutions which are basically instruments for lending money to prospective students at usurious rates.
Liberty differs from these only by having a political/religious agenda and a residential campus with a bunch of medieval rules of conduct. Otherwise it really is only a vehicle for glomming onto some student loan money.

Think of the Climate Change argument, many if not most of the "scientists" who deny it being true were trained (undergraduate) at these schools. Same with the creationism argument.

(18,807 posts)Liberty or other restrictive schools like Brigham Young might as well be Berkeley compared to, say, Bob Jones University (where there's a white list of acceptable forms of music, and where you can get reprimanded for speaking to a member of the opposite sex while standing still).
Some far, far worse policies there which have turned them into a bit of a lightning rod from people paying attention and survivors of the place and so on, but the "mundane" stuff is astonishingly petty.

(33,688 posts)Most of the god-botherer "universities" and "colleges" offer diplomas that are worth considerably less, in terms of actual educational value, than the paper they are printed on.

■Music must be compatible with the Universitys music standards: New Age, jazz, rock, and country music is not permitted. Contemporary Christian music is not permitted (e.g., Michael W. Smith, Stephen Curtis Chapman, WOW Worship, and so forth).
■Residence hall students may not watch videos above a G rating when visiting homes in town and may not attend movie theaters.
■All weapons must be turned in for storage. Trigger locks are required for pistols. Fireworks are not permitted on campus

(5,602 posts)He might have checked out the curriculum first:
Page 173. Graduate course Theology 678Western and New Religions.
Course description:
"The history, doctrines, and present state of the major cults such as Mormonism, Christian Science, Jehovah's Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventism. The course will also include a study of the Occult Movement. Emphasis is placed on the errors of these groups and on methods and materials for confronting them effectively."
Keep pandering to anti-Mormon fundies, Mitt. It's so becoming.
