Putin says FIFA being persecuted just like Assange and Snowden

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/28/putin-fifa-arrests-us-world-cup_n_7458470.html

"Unfortunately, our American partners use such methods to achieve their selfish aims and illegally persecute people," he said, citing former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, both of whom have evaded prosecution in the United States for divulging secret information by hiding abroad.

"I do not rule out that in the case of FIFA, it's exactly the same," Putin said.

Will the UEFA (the Europeans) make good on their threat to abstain from the 2018 FIFA World Cup?
Will the FIFA-trial reveal that Russia bribed FIFA-officials to become the World Cup hosts?

8. Moscow Times: "Putin Says FIFA Arrests Indicate U.S. Meddling"
Thu May 28, 2015, 02:34 PM
May 2015

President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of meddling in the affairs of soccer's governing body and hinted that its corruption investigation is part of an attempt to take the 2018 World Cup away from his country.

Corruption charges in the United States were announced Wednesday against 14 people, at least two of whom have American citizenship. Much of the money that allegedly changed hands went through U.S. banks, which is why U.S. officials were able to bring charges. In a separate probe, Swiss prosecutors opened criminal proceedings into FIFA's awarding of the 2018 World Cup to Russia and the 2022 tournament to Qatar.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev estimated in 2013 that hosting the World Cup would cost the country $20 billion, a sum double what then-Prime Minister Vladimir Putin predicted when Russia was awarded the tournament in 2010. Other estimates put the final figure closer to $50 billion, approximately the same sum spent on the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

And despite Putin's insinuations about its own role in perpetuating the scandal, the United States appears to agree that Russia was not at risk of losing the tournament. The U.S. Embassy issued a statement Thursday saying that the investigation into FIFA launched by U.S. officials had "nothing to do with Russia," and that the country would in fact host the 2018 World Cup.

"But as U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch lays it out, the suspects planned their crimes in the U.S.; they used the U.S. banking system; they planned to profit through schemes that targeted the "growing U.S. market for soccer."

Poor Putin Always whining it's someone else fault.. some other guy is sending Russian Soldiers into Ukraine while their Mothers are wondering where their missing sons are..

Ukraine crisis: Russian mothers of killed and captured soldiers ask 'why are our sons fighting in Ukraine?'

Reports have since claimed that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of soldiers are fighting – like those captured, without identifying uniforms – in the country. The developments echo the events that led to the annexing of Crimea by Russia – the sudden appearance of unidentified and well-equipped "green men" which preceded the Russian takeover.

Moscow has denied that the soldiers were sent to fight in Ukraine, claiming instead they had crossed the border by mistake. "The mentioned servicemen were patrolling the Russian-Ukrainian border, and crossed it, probably accidentally, at an unmarked border point," an unidentified Defence Ministry source told the RIA-Novosti news agency on Tuesday.
